Anyway, these news come just in time for the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78)'s soon-to-come christening, as the new aircraft carrier can produce significantly more electrical power than its predecessor class, the Nimitz, and was expressly designed to receive direct energy weapons like the LAWS. They probably don't have more than a half-dozen of LAWS operational right now and I guess those are just prototypes/testbeds/technology demonstrators.
