I shut down my computer every few weeks. All activity ceases for a few hours. Then I turn it back on.

An analogy of what life and death are to machines: when our human hearts shut down, we can use defibrillators to start them back up. It doesn't work so well once the body begins to decompose though; luckily, machines don't decompose in a matter of minutes (rather, it takes years/decades, with a lot of weathering, before the average machine is beyond restarting).

If you watched to the very end of the episode (13), there's a subtle scene with some baby whale-squids latched onto a wreckage, part of which is shaped like a robotic hand reminiscent of those Chamber has.

And before that scene, it is mentioned that Ledo becomes known as a brave salvager. Salvagers salvage stuff. You can probably draw a useful conclusion out of that.

Watched the OVA (raw)...

There is no discussion topic for this OVA so, I will just post it here.

Spoiler for OVA1:

This OVA is the sequel to the main story. It's 53 mins. long!

The summary of story is: the exploration team which Ledo is working with on Gargantia tried to salvage a ship found under the sea. Things went wrong and Leo was trapped under the rock that fell on him. Gargantia people then sent a rescue team to save Ledo. They succeded. Amy run to hug Ledo as soon as he is back on the ship. Ledo x Amy FTW!!!!






There are many cute Ledo x Amy scene in this OVA but I won't spoil them.


The new girl, name Lima (I think), seems to know something about Kugel (need translation). She interests in Ledo and Chamber. She joined a rescue team to go to save Ledo.





At the end of ths OVA, it is revealed that she has a futuristic robot too.





Oh, Chamber appears in this OVA, but in flashback only. (Note: this flashback is new scene)

I actually scrolled through the OVA just to check if Chamber was going to be in it or revive before I was going to watch it right away. No Chamber meant no watching.

Well, Chamber did show up, but not what I expected...

I am a little excited about OVA 2. This OVA was more about the characters and daily life aboard the new bigger and greater Gargantia.

I watch this show partly for the romance, so the OVA was a hit with me. The reunion brought tears to my eyes. She was so happy. Enjoyable.

But I also watch this show for the science fiction, and perhaps ep2 will bring us more of that...next spring.

The new girl is played by Minase Inori, the young seiyuu I featured last season. To my ear, this may be her best role yet. It takes her away from her usual high-voiced roles to something more straight and serious. And she can act.

I've updated the characters/seiyuus page I made for the original series with pics of three new characters and their seiyuus: Rima (Minase Inori), Fraisu (Toriumi Kousuke) and the "robot" (as listed in the end-credits) we saw at the end (Sakurai Takahiro).

We don't really know much right now. That Machine Caliber could be a retrofit, a re-build, or her own. She could be part of the alliance sent to check things out, or she could be someone who really wants to know and understand about things.

The alliance only has 2 models chamber and striker moder. So either thats a older suit that was left on earth and will get chamber A.I. later or its a body built from a compilation of crap and will be rebuilt getting chambers A.I. later. If I was chamber I would just stay dead get the feeling that new body is going to be a major downgrade. It probably came from that ship they found. The fact it can barely talk means it is definitely a dumb A.I. currently.

I thought what I watched was an OVA leading to S2, a prelude to the first episode of season 2 so to say.
Was it in fact the first episode of S2?

As far as I can tell, season 2 is 2 OVAs, one now and another in the spring. I'm not aware of any additional materials yet.

If I had to take a guess about what that Machine Caliber was.....

It's either an Old Earth Machine Caliber that Kugel's fleet picked up or Leema and her fleet somehow managed to find bits and pieces of Chamber and Striker and put them together in a semi-working fashion.

My real question would be if anyone else knows about it and why they would want to keep it a secret.

Watched the Gargantia: Meguru Kouro, Haruka OVA today. Wow, glad to see Ledo, Amy, and the rest of the crew back on this new adventure. Oh yeah, and Chamber is back even though it was shown in flashbacks.

Regardless, I can't wait to see Leema and her Machine Caliber next Spring... I wonder if that one holds the secret of the Alliance.

Also the Galactic Alliance are essentially space nazis. They're racial supremacists who practice eugenics and wipe out what they consider inferior species and inferior examples of their own species. All we ever knew about Avalon was their propaganda.

A prequel when the Gargantia fleet was starting to come together would be interesting, though, plenty of stories to be told in that world.

this is SUPER old but.. they are not nazis they dont say things like you need to hava this skin colour or eyes colour the just select the most fit humans, for example 1 guy who has an illnes that makes him weaker than the others or needs medicine, then they kill him. its still horrible but its more like "if he/she cant fight then it has to die"

Good news : the scenario for 2nd season gets novelization, and planned for Summer 2015.
