Ladies won't totally be turned off by that. The fact that you do something unconventional adds humour to the atmosphere, and really helps to ease the existing nervousness. Weird as it sounds, I find that cute, especially when the guy is trying so damn hard to appear impressive but fail miserably.

Or better yet... just be yourself. Nothing is more obvious than someone trying too hard to impress. If the person doesn't like what they see, you both probably saved yourselves a lot of hassle in the future.
