But what if your "fake" vote code you just randomly spat out is the same as a real code that was issued?

then if you use it before the person who is issued it uses it... it will be counted for you... if they use it before you do, then no biggie, their vote goes as it was... ***

(hmm... voting early anyone?)

one of the reasons I dispise malicious fake voting of that sort. Odds are slim, of course.. but still there... probably one of the most exploitable sides of this type of voting... if you had the time and energy.

*** assuming that you havent already cast a valid vote from your current post code. (also assuming that they are still checking against that) edit: and it is

Be careful not to split across posts
Perform your vote in a single post. If you use multiple posts, only the first
will be valid. If a single 2channel poster ID※ is associated with multiple
codes, it will be seen as multiple voting, and only the first will be accepted.
For example, if two or more people vote from a shared PC, or some other case
where they might have the same IP, please be careful of ID duplication

They should check that the IP of the post is the same as the IP the vote code was issued to.

sadly that isn't possible... 2ch, to maintain anonymous status for it's users (and they find that important), does not match the poster ID to the IP address... (well at least not in a way that you can decrypt on our end.. it is linked by IP and cookie ... if you ip changes but your cookie doesnt, it will tell you that... ) .. [edit: I should note that they do log IP addresses on 2ch's end... but the people running 2ch and the people running saimoe2008 are not necessarily related in any fashion... I mean saimoe was originally just a anonymous setup thing that grew into what you see today..(which is probably the most organized polls on 2ch)... 2ch just is kind enough to set aside a part of their servers to host a board just for polls of this sort ... just look at http://changi.2ch.net/vote/ where saimoe is hosted... you'll find maybe 5 threads related to saimoe... out of the 200+ current active threads others include bleach voting, lucky star voting.. etc. etcect very much like this thread at animesuki ... it would be like using animsesuki to run a saimoe... now i doubt the staff here would like that all that much, but conceptually the same... we woudlnt have access to moderator tools just because we were running a saimoe here ]

That and the 2ch system and the vote code issuing program are hosted on two completely different systems. now the voting codes (the [[AS@#$@$@#$]]) usually DO contain location information... I haven't bothered to decipher it this year... but last year and the year before, you could spot most of the "foreign" votes pretty easy. so it is actually possible to break down the results by those, once you decipher them.

(the whole behind the scenes merge of the voting codes from .. iix.jp (I think it is) with the threads from 2ch .. to run the valids is actually a pretty neat process.... and that they are able to pretty much keep everytihng anonymous is amazing)

edit: http://changi.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/vote/1221246822/705 <- a thread also in the voting board that is talking about the use of English IDs ... you can see this poster is quite worried about exposing IP addressses from such a system. It's just a different mindset... in america most of the founding bbs's had usernames standard... and it is just in our culture that we like to know who we are talking with (even if that username doesnt really mean anything) ... places like 2ch ... or our own 4chan or similar.. it is just a different culture... admittingly one I still find difficult at times.... but it has its purposes.

edit, edit: at least they issue codes ... most of the polls dont require a code at all easily swayed by the determined. But then they are all "for fun" really... much like a lot of the polls here on animesuki.. and obviously its really late, because I am rambling too much now.

So I can't vote for others who can get a vote code but can't post for some reason?

Tsukasa SEEMS to have it easy, but we'll have to wait till the fake vote count. Not that I really cared about her match anyway, but whatever

What it means there is that you can only use 1 pc per vote since each pc carries a special ID which is unique to that pc only.It doesn't matter if it uses a share network with other pc...that 1 ID applied to that 1 pc only, not other pc on the same line.Voter's ID can be checked on the thread --> 615 :清き一票@名無しさん:2008/10/21(火) 22:21:49 ID:rZYwyHiV. If you use that pc to vote for other ppl after you already used it for your own vote, the latter vote won't be counted in even if the code is valid.

However if your vote is not valid, then the latter one will be counted in assuming that the latter's voting code is valid. In this case,if you decide to repost your vote,it won't be accepted anymore.

If you wanna vote for other ppl,use other pc to do it.

such anticipation. This is way more interesting then the presidental elections. The vote code site must be different because I can't get multiple vote codes from different computers on the same lan. But If thats the case I can place a vote for someone with my extra computer if they have a vote code.
