Okay, I don't have to be a soccer fan to be pumped up by watching this episode. It's a build-up episode, and a particularly awesome one at that. I like all the characterization for the Osaka Gunners' players as well, that's something I have to commend the writer of the manga. I love the Blanc's bits (as always, the level of care put into the foreign language speech is impeccable. Dulfer really sound like a Dutch, for instance), and Tatsumi and Dulfer's interaction is nothing short of epic. If Tatsumi's last look before the ED doesn't inspire confidence, I don't know what will.
I do wonder though, I know it's a 4-4-2 but how is the midfield going to be? Is Tsubaki just going to be a winger to replace Tanba, or is there something else more fun? Is the forwards (speaking of which, things doesn't look good for Natsuki) just going to be a two top, or is someone going to be a second striker or something? With Tatsumi, the possibilities, the unconventional is to be expected...Guess we'll see next episode. Oh, and as an aside, I LOVE the fans cheering, that's how it's supposed to be. I love the ETU chants and their song, and even the Gunners Gunners Osaka Gunners. Yeah, I'm still bitter about those damn Vuvuzelas. P.S: Tatsumi is right, there are more bikes than people in Holland. Heck, I'm just a transfer student and even I got two. |

Anime rule number 68: Never reveal your plan in a Xanatos Gambit, it will fail, if it doesn't a handicap will be slammed on you that will effect you for a prolonged duration.

Tsubaki was probably be paired up with that "boring" playmaker.
A very interesting setup episode is very accurate description. And now the torture of waiting a full week is killing me ._. I wonder if it will be Gino and Akasaki on each wing or will it be Tsubaki and Akasaki. As for the up top.. Both are out and out striker, No clue if they could play off each other.

I think they play a 4-4-2 in Argentine style with a diamond in the midfield, (I don't know the numbers of every player)

Akasaki in mid alongside Tsubaki?
I think Akasaki will play more like Robinho in Brazil formation except on the right .. and Tsubaki instead will fill the role of Elano/Dani Alves .. but on the left side. Sera, considering he should have more energy and Natsu being more of the main forward, will probably roam a bit more on the left while Natsu stay forward.. This will leave Gino in the middle on his own. Back 6 shouldnt change that much. Problem with this formation is this would require Gino to participate in midfield battle or Koshi would get overrun. Tsubaki, on the other hand, will have to do A LOT. That #2 are also alone when in defense. ----------20--11--------- -----------------------8- ------------10----------- -----7------------------- -------------6----------- -5-------4------3------2-

About the episode, it's great as usual. I think it's great how the anime managed to capture the tension of being the receiving end of a relentless assault. I have to hold my breathe every time the ball is on Kubota, looks like he'll get even more spotlight again tomorrow. And just when I start to admire Kuroda even more, his hotheadedness got in the way again. Goes to show how a lapse of concentration, even just once, could cost you the match. Tatsumi's plan is now ruined, either he got an even more brilliant strategy by half-time or ETU's banking on a miracle... |

I think the goal was Tatsumi mistake.
You can't mark man to man without leave a free defender ("líbero"), because if the forwards are good they bound to escape from their marker at least one time, or a midfielder or defender can run to the goal leaving behind the defenders that can't leave alone "their man". As it was constituted the defense of ETU was destined to the escape of one of the external forwards and Kubota hesitating between go to cover the external forward or stay with his mark, long enough for Hauer to win the position and scored. If you want to mark 4 forwards, Sugie must be the líbero (hes faster than Kuroda and bigger), and mark Kubota with a midfielder (Tubaki or Akasaki) leaving Murakoshi free in the midfield to recover the ball and cut advances with the ball dominated from the midfielders of Osaka (and avoid shoots from out of the penalty area) |
