Here is a character who remained an absolute self-absorbing jerk from start to finish, with little to no character development in between. How can we compare the likes of him to that of Sheryl is beyond me.

I agree fully.

The only thing that Basara has over Sheryl is Firebomber and his Spiritia singing. Other than that, imo, he has nothing.

Gosh, tell me about it. I had to fast forward everytime he goes out singing and the only thing that kept me watching Macross 7 was to find out what happens to Max and Millia. I can't believe it dragged on for 50 episodes +encores and movie.

Not sure if Alto had the same piloting skill to dodge the vajra firing while singing. It might even enrage them more hearing him sing. But then again, who knows what would happen if she/he sings with his kabuki-hime voice.

'Cause he was still awesome. Sorry for the reality slap, but life hurts. When you can end a war that threatens the fate of the galaxy without firing a single shot, you get massive points. Frankly, it doesn't matter how self-absorbed someone is as long as it's not that he only cares about himself. The whole point of his singing was to get people to not blow each other up.

I also notice that so far, I've only/mostly seen Sheryl fans in the Basara-opposition. That seems to indicate a few things. But anyway....
