I think the distinction here is that they're presenting this as part of some serious Freudian issues Enishi suffers from. His siscon seems to be presented quite strongly as a reason why he's often so fail worthy. It's tied to a massive inadequacy he feels towards his immediate female familiy members.

This episode also helped humanize some of the adult characters of this anime that many viewers have not been fond of so far, particularly Takako. I know some of these characters may be, er, beyond redemption in the eyes of some viewers, but I still have to commend Hanasaku Iroha for at least trying to make them more likable and realistic.

I also like how it hints at how Enishi might be starting to develop more of a spine, and becoming a somewhat more well-rounded character.
Agreed. The episodes the series has done that focus on some of the older cast IMHO have been some of the better episodes in the series. And frankly, Takako is showing up way to much to be a genuinely antagonistic character.

That's a good and fair point, I have to admit.

Yeah, I think she was played as an antagonist (to Ohana) back in Episodes 8 and 9, but she doesn't come across like that at all in this episode, imo.

I thought "siscon?" when Enishi first remembered Satsuki at the pool. But then he talked to Takako and it sounded pretty platonic. He has confidence issues, and he compares himself to his sister, and admires her.

It must be pretty deep-rooted if he made a movie all revolving around that one scene where his mother ignored him and then Satsuki burst from the water. His insecurity and admiration burned into one moment?

Peaceful episode without too much zany things going on. Definitely good to see that Ohana isn't blindly charging into situations at the moment. 8/10.

NOOO OHANA!!! They'll kill the show too. :P Well hopefully I get to see Ohana shoot people.

Anyhow, Archon has nothing to hate on this episode. It was pretty good at delivering lighthearted moments, and wet t-shirt scene was far superior to that shit in episode 3.

Also, Minko being more laid back, and maybe Grandma got some weed in her pipe. All is well.

Ohana really want's to be a Strike Witch instead of working at an Inn. Unfortunately she doesn't have the magic power necessary to fly on a broom

I loved seeing Ohana and Minchi playing together. It's nice to see that despite their bickering they've become frineds. However, I don't get why the deputy assistant cook would have to clean the pool -- I don't recall her ever working outside the kitchen before, and if they really needed the manpower why not have Tohru and Rin pitch in as well?

I think it might be simpler than that -- it's a customer calling for a reservation, but everyone was so busy preparing for the movie that no one answered. Sometime next episode Ohana will have an epiphany that they're neglecting their real duty and give a rousing speech about what working at an inn really means.

i was so confused as to why they were trying to fly brooms.. haha. but yeah, a good episode. it dragged a little in the middle, but i found it to be a very mature ep that set out to do something and accomplished it.

I must confess that ep bored me silly until the mysterious phone call, which at least injected a little WTF. Maybe it's the director, but my initial reaction was that it was bad news about Satsuki. After all, it was happening while Enishi was mooning over her in a slightly creepy way, then a fade to Ohana smiling and laughing innocently in slo-mo.

For the same reason Tomoe doesn't: they're not that the bottom of the ladder.

I also thought the phone call may have been bad news about Satsuki. They were just talking in very good terms about her, and this is usually a flag.
The preview doesn't seem to imply major events of sort, but rarely the preview has been a truthful ally in guessing what's to come.

Though the inn association must be really dire straits due to Satsuki's article and that new hotel that they ask the teens what would be good selling point.

They should have gotten Jiromaru to help then. He certainly is at the very bottom of the ladder, and I'm sure he would have enjoyed that wet shirt action

Unfortunately for him, he had to write the script. Tough luck, Yamakan.

And not that it matters much, but I do think Beanman is gay as well. His reactions (or lack of them in other scenes) throughout the series are very telling.

Nice calm before the storm ep? That phone call at the end can't be good. Nako's reaction to the movie was great, she was also great throughout the whole eo. Jiromaru finally gets to write, wonder if he'll sneak in a little bit of his perversions. Lol Ren sweating while impersonating the lead. Why do we only find out now that they had a pool the whole time.

Surprised grandma agreed so easily, maybe she knew about Enishi's love for film making in the past. Kind of sad in that flashback when he was unnoticed by his mom. THough i guess that's also when he became a siscon for that great image of Satsuki emerging from the water. Surprised to find out that he used to be into film making.

Great episode, loved the whole business with the brooms. Think Ohana has been watching Kiki's Delivery Service too much though..

Am I the only one who expected the film would turn out to be porn? Especially with Jiromaru writing it!

Thinking about it - isn't it incredibly sad that Enishi's so excited when the woman who maybe cares the most about him calls him by his name? How starved for attention can he be?

Unless the phone call is a troll, of course. But I hope it's harbinger of something dramatic because I thought ep 16 was pretty boring. This show needs more Satsuki.

Yeah, and it doesn't help that they still haven't specified what the film is about, except that judging from the bit with Renji, it'll have some romance in it...
