What I'm referring to was a tweet (I believe) after the first Aria BD was on sale saying that it needed more sales to get a second season - and it seemed to imply that, at least for the author, it underperformed. |

Having an average of over 5k in both bd and dvd isn't bad. heck its better than your average anime. Getting 5k average sales in anime is good and enough to get a second season(usually) and the novel is even if the plot is pretty wacky in later part is still among the top in terms of sales. I don't know about AA manga though but HnA is still popular and strong in japan.

Looking forward to this and hope it does well. Probably won't be a factor to trigger some kind of second season for Aria, but still looking forward to it.
Could be a similarly enjoyable series like Soul Eater Not. Even in minor roles be nice to see characters like Riko again as well.

Not sure if it's confirmed, but aside from Rie Kugimiya returning as Aria H. Kanzaki, the cast will also include Ayane Sakura, Aoi Yuuki, Ai Kayano, MAO and Sarah Emi Bridcutt.
As for the staff... Director: Takashi Kawahata [DEBUT] Series Director: Fumihiko Shimo (VERY experienced, worked with several studios including KyoAni, did screenplay for The Disappearance) Original Character Design: Kobuichi (LN illustrator) and Shogako Tachibana (mangaka for AA) Character Design: Miwa Ooshima (VERY experienced in anime, career goes for 25 years in various fields, character designer of GJ-Bu, Kokkuri-san, Saiunkoku Monogatari, Koihime Musou, Baka to Test and many others) Overall Animation Director: Mariko Kubo, Chisato Kikunaga Music: Takurou Iga Music Production: Flying Dog Well, May'n is part of Flying Dog, so there's a high chance that she will sing the OP for Aria AA.

Loooooks like it's better looking than J.C. Staff's rendition of the original series.
Well, except for that "light and shadows" scene with Aria and the other girl. Aria seems more mature too.

It's probably a good thing. Production coordination at J.C. Staff is stretched thin as it is (down to two production lines for now, although the transition doesn't seem to have caught them off guard this time) with three shows currently airing and Heavy Object slated for next season.
It'll be interesting to see how staffing on Heavy Object plays out. |

Well this sneaked up on me...
I really enjoyed the original show. From what I can figure this will be a rather different take on things, but it will still feature a emotional unstable genius detective doing crazy guntricks with fanservice right? |

To make it more clear, both soul eater and hidan no aria are crazy action series featuring the young elite members of a school-like organization. Meanwhile, the spinoffs feature members of the lower levels with more SoL focused stories since they can't be on the big leagues (In soul eater's case, they're not even supposed to be). And in both spinoffs the MC is female.

The MC of the original Soul Eater is female too though.
Also AA isn't as SOL focused as you make it sound. It's an action manga, and it has a lot of action. The difference between the main series and AA is that the latter is a little more down to earth when it comes to techniques and powers.
