Really though I can't help but not be surprised that what is easily the only Square Enix game I have any remote interest in would stay Japan exclusive, while all we're looking to get are more re-releases, Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts. Is this all they plan on being in North America from here on out because honestly I don't see why they don't just go Japan exclusive at this point. They're practically dead creatively anyway save for this game and the stuff Eidos is putting out.

At least there will apparently be Fire Emblem: Awakening so I can take some solace in that.
They have made plenty of non-FF and KH games (The Last Remnant, TWENTY, Blood of Bahamut to name a few) so I see don't how this true. Even if you just boil down to FFXIII and XIII-2 there tons differences between the two, same with KH. In fact KH just had two of it's best games in it's series released: KH:BBS and KH3DS. Talk anyone who have played those games and I bet they would be singing their praises. There are other companies (like Konami) with fit that far more.

As BDFF's overseas release, I wouldn't worry about it. SE is taking the wait and see approach due a lot of hand-held titles not doing to well lately.

I personally am still depressed with no news about FF Type 0. And if THAT game with a FF name has not even any rumours about it getting localized, I hold no expectations fora release of this game on this side of the pacific. Don't wanna hope again...

Sadly I think developers feel that JRPG's are no longer profitable in the West and would lose them money and they are probably right. There was a time as recent as the early 2000's when games like Xenoblade, Last Story, Valkyria Chronicles 3 and FF-Type 0 and yes even this would have been no brainers to release here, but I think a combination of reviewers just absolutely refusing to give JRPG games a good review and promoting this idea of stagnation that is simply untrue, the rise of shooting games, and also some of Japan's own tendencies when it comes to including more things that might creep Western players out have led to a genuine decline in interest, though no doubt it's still there.

I wish there was a way for international developers to do small operations that focus on their JRPG's and the like, but maybe act as a smaller sub-division that focus on translating, promoting (there's facebook now and word of mouth on the internet is a powerful alternative to full blown paid ads) and releasing these games over here. Atlus made this model work for them, Xseed as well, so I don't understand why a company as big as Square Enix can't. I just don't see what kind of future they have over here if they are this petrified of releasing their RPG's anymore. Do they intend to rely on Eidos to carry the Western Market or what?

Yeah, Type-0's situation really sucks especially since it's such a fantastic game despite some issues. But let's not forget, that game was in a special circumstance, PSP's market and value here have all but nearly evaporated, thanks to Sony's handling of the system here. Now Vita games are facing the same problem because they haven't a thing. That said, there is nothing saying that Type-0 won't still head out overseas, most likely on the 3DS.

BDFF's outlook here much more positive since's the platform is more healthy even if JRPGs are generally doing less here. There aren't any RPGs like BDFF out on 3DS either so this can be a pretty good saling point. Besides "4 Warriors of Light" spiritual predecessor was released here so that adds to it's chances.

More:
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/10/11...fairy-costume/

The entire OST has been uploaded online, and I also got my copy yesterday and have been listening to it nearly non-stop. Easily one of the best soundtracks to come out in years, and I would definitely rank it alongside CT, CC, FFVI, IV and VIII.

BDFF Soundtrack, enjoy. (translations may vary though)

Oh and bit good news for western localization, BD is nearly selling out everywhere with a 50% to 60% sell through.

I hear good things about Bravery Default, that it is the first game in a while from Square Enix that was actually properly made.
But it's sold out everywhere.

Well, considering the sales number, it's not too surprising. Hopefully this mark a new great franchise from SE to replace the quite stalled lately ff franchise(I haven't liked FF since X excluding type zero and the online games)

Anything that stops them from fixating on just pumping out mediocre FFXIII and Kingdom Hearts sequel is a good thing in my book.

If it's that popular, then there's a pretty high chance we'll get it in NA and Europe eventually right? (unless there's already news on that, havent been keeping up)

This game looks pretty sweet I'm hoping for a US release, as well as a Dimensions release too.

OT, but I thought Dimensions is already out on the iOS? Which reminds me, I gotta buy it if I hope to have any other non-high budget game be released in English...

But yeah, not having high hopes of this game being released in English, as 140k seems to be a small number. Sure it's bigger than the SaGa 2 remake (which made that number in a month), but in comparison, Type Zero sold 470k in its first week.

I think the most recent news on localization was before the game was released, someone somewhere on some news (don't quite remember) said that there were no plans yet for localization.

For a new IP it is. SE is not going to be comparing to an FF game which normally outsells nearly everything anyway. BDFF is constantly getting sold out (and has 85% sell through) even going into second week, which means it's probably getting good word of mouth. Unless the market for JRPGs in the west is completely dead, I'd say chances are good for international release.

This is correct, SE was probably waiting to see how JP sales were doing and Asano (the producer) really wants it to come out here.

Still holding out well in the second week and it's still selling out in retail and online. It's also ranks #1 on Amazon a lot. SE clearly underestimated the demand for the game.

Square Enix seems to think any game that isn't loaded to the brim with cutting edge character models and overwrought story telling can't possibly be popular so this doesn't surprise me. Hopefully this sends an IMO much needed message that people are interested in other things from them still and maybe they even start talking localization. Doubtful, but it's a start.....

I think SE's low expectations for BD had more to do with some of the lackluster sales of their previous new IPs in the past like TWENTY and Sigma Harmonics than how much valuable the game is compared to SE's current brands.

Hell, BD is even doing better far than it's predecessor 4 Heroes of Light (Final Fantasy Gaiden in Japan).

I dunno maybe it's just the right time now as opposed to whenever 4 Heroes of Light was released and people are just ready for a return to a more whimsical and traditional Final Fantasy. I certainly was.
