Synopsis:
Hong Sul is an ordinary college student. Yoo Jung is the most popular upper-classman. He's good looking, rich, smart - and even nice. However, Hong Sul thinks there's more to Yoo Jung than what meets the eye...


Don't let the stupid title fool you. As silly as it sounds(imo at least), this is one HELL of a good story. Its all about the main heroine, Hong Sul, and how she gets a bad feeling about one of her upperclassmen, Yoo Jung, at her college. She doesn't quite know what it is, but it makes her feel rather uncomfortable around him. It doesn't sound like much, and plot-wise, it really isn't, but the execution of it is highly interesting. Sul is a remarkable heroine; she is the farthest from stereotypical as you can possibly get. She feels very realistic in her actions and emotions, even if it's drawn comically(no pun intended). The big draw is how Sul interprets Yoo Jung's actions. From the beginning, she says how she feels uncomfortable around him, and as the story progresses, we are treated to several flashbacks to show multiple instances of why she is suspicious of him(hence, the 'Mystery' tag). The flashback moments are just as(if not more) interesting than the present moments and I really liked the way the author integrates them into the current story so seamlessly. The story also avoids many of the highly annoying pratfalls of regular shoujo stories(well, this IS labeled as a josei).

I really like the way the chars are drawn, even if it does come off amateurish at times, but it may not be to everyone's liking. Plus side, its all in color, so that might help make it easier on the eyes =03. For some reason, Sul reminds me of Aisaka Taiga in the looks department (>.>).

Young Gon(why must their names be so darn similar?) I felt bad for. Well, that whole stalker arc was great. I KNEW when Sul was nice to him, he would start to cling onto her, but I wasn't expecting him to stalk her D0=.

Yoo Jung does seem pretty devious, blackmailing the asst. professor. I can't really tell if he's plotting some evil scheme, or whether he earnestly likes Sul. He clearly used the blackmail so that Sul would get the scholarship mentioned near the beg of the story, so he can't be all that bad. However, because Sul has been constantly thinking of him from a negative perspective and seeing why see thinks that way, I can't help but to think that he has underlying intentions other than simply liking/loving Sul. At least, there's no basis for him liking her, esp if you take Sul's past perspectives of him into account.

And I never would have guessed that the "Honey" Sul's next-door neighbor was referring to was the asst prof (O.o). Thinking about it.... ugh （　ﾟ Дﾟ）

Anyways, I greatly encourage you to give this a shot. While it does generally have a 'slice of life' feel that might give you the impression nothing is happening, the meticulousness of how this story pieces Sul's present and her past occurrences makes this quite the enjoyable read =03.

I was quite surprised with how quickly things progressed with Jung and Sul. It was only a few chapters ago she thought he was some devious, subtly pompous guy who was hiding something. Now it's like Jung is closer to Sul more than anyone who's been shown thus far. It almost feels like all of her suspicions were her paranoia caused by her initial impressions gone too far. Jung really seems like a stand-up guy. He comforted her when in her moment of deep depression, offered sound advice, and helped her with the english situation. Then he took her on a date(under the notion that it's research for their class).

I guess that flashback in chp 26? was when Jung finally took notice of Sul for the first time. I wonder what he was thinking at the moment Sul was about to go off on him. I'm sure he felt bad about the situation, but I wonder did he also feel a sense of pride in her for being so forward, yet dignified in asking him about it(unlike how Young Go asked for an apology annoyingly)(and kudos to Sul being awesome once again =03). I lol'd when he facepalmed after Joo Yeon started to convince Gon that Sul likes him . It's a rare expression I don't get to see in such a serious tone in manga/manwha/webtoons, I just found it really funny. Strange how this quick event snowballed into all the stalker stuff Sul had to go through.

Other than explaining the situation with Joo Yeon and what happened to her between their last year and this year, I guess the situation will start to head into a bit about Jung's past with In Ho and his sister, which I feel will be quite interesting =03. In Ho and Jung seem like they dislike/hate each other, though it seems In Ho's sister still talks to him some. She sounds like a money-grubbing bitch, but I hope there's more to her than that. It's possible this could reveal some kind of 'other' side of Jung that Sul has been subconscious of this whole time. I do think there's got to be something behind that generous persona he has; he's just too perfect to not have some skeletons in his closet (>.>).

I feel sorry for Sul, being put into the uncomfortable position of having to help Ah Young with Yoo Jung =0(. She even inadvertently excited Yoo Jung, making him think she was actually asking him out somewhere. I found it amusing though that very shortly after getting together, Yoo Jung didn't take long to figure out what was going on. Then to find out about the whole blind date thing, sure made him pissed off .

To see him so cutthroat with In Ho was kinda a surprise, since we've only seen glimpses of this aspect of his personality(even if that glimpse was Sul's shrewd perception of him ). Certainly he was still pissed off, but, despite this, he was still considerate enough to take Sul home after that disaster of a date she had. This was the first time I can remember him not taking the humble approach talking(being overly nice, saying he doesn't mind, etc.) and speaking Sul so straightforwardly, I started to get the impression he was more disappointed than pissed. It almost kinda felt like Sul unintentionally took advantage of him emotionally, so I feel bad for the guy.

About Yoo Jung, maybe people have been taking advantage of his good nature [financially/emotionally] so much, people expect it out of him. I think that one of the things he saw in Sul was that she never really tried to exploit him this way, which may be why it seemed like he was falling for her in the first place. I still can't quite place when he started liking her, and that shows that the author did a stupendous job with the relationship her.

I hope In Ho isn't going to do something as stupid as use Sul's phone to piss off Yoo Jung =0\. I must be hoping pretty big too, because it's right up his ally to do just that. As supposedly the 3rd main char of this story, they seem to be setting him up as using Sul as a proxy to get at Yoo Jung, and I hope that's all he becomes. I really don't want any love triangles or crap like that, cuz that's when things start to go downhill.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the Girls of the Wild's thread here and immediately searched for other manhwa forums, but it seems that for some mysterious reason it is the only manhwa thread with a decent amount of posts. I mean, as much as I enjoy reading it, it's not something I would have expected to be one of the most popular among manhwas, or Korean webtoons.

That said, I've read a lot of Korean webtoons and this one is among the best I've read so far. This isn't your typical dose of romance. Fans have coined the term "romance thriller' to describe its genre, and the expression is quite apt. Readers are constantly set on edge, wondering whether Yoo Jung is after Hong Sul in a nice way or a really bad way. Neither of them are typical characters. But one of the most impressive things about this manhwa is how the minor characters are all fleshed out realistically and how they are related to each other in ways you'd never have expected. The plotlines are woven meticulously, so that scenes that may have seemed unimportant at first glance turn out to be surprisingly relevant.

Anyhow, there seems to be scanlation problems as the poster above mentioned, but this one is really worth checking out. You don't even have to be a fan of josei to enjoy it, although it is likely that you'll enjoy it even more if you've enjoyed but is kind of tired of repetitive romance mangas.

I have to admit, those group-mates of Sul's still piss me off, so I don't blame Sul for still holding a grudge, since it impacts her scholarship ability. Hell, I'm sure many people could relate to having a group and someone in said group didn't do the responsibilities s/he was assigned(I know I have), but the WHOLE team? Yeah, I wouldn't be able to look Sul in the face if I was them.

As for Bo Ra, I can feel where she's coming from. She seemed to tell Mona(Sul's senpai, s1, chapter 39) everything about what was going on with her life, even her suspicions of Yoo Jung. I wouldn't expect Sul to tell Bo Ra about Yoo Jung, but the other stuff, if they were good friends, should have been fair game. Well, in regards to Young Gon(Sul's stalker near the beg chaps), maybe Sul did try to point out something odd about him to Bo Ra, but Bo Ra just kinda shrugged it off like it was no big deal or something. Some re-reading is in order for that one.

And I STILL can't believe Sul suspects something 'off' about Yoo Jung, even after all they've been through and all he's done for her(which wasn't THAT much, but still...). At this point, even considering his personality with In Ho and his sister, it's hard to see him with any ulterior motive with Sul other than wanting to help her out, befriend her, and/or possibly even seeing her as dating material. Women's intuition? Well, I'm sure SOMETHING is up with him, more than he lets on, but really, is there any reason for Sul to feel that way at this point in the story? At least she sees him as an outstanding guy though, so I suppose all is forgiven in that respect.

That bastard In Ho >=02. Trying to get back at Jung by intentionally befriending Sul. Fortunately, unlike the denizens of shoujo and even josei tropes, Sul's sharp womanly instincts tell her that In Ho's sudden compassion isn't sincere. I was very impressed she was able to pick up on this, despite the helpful advice she got from him earlier that helped her stand up to Asst prof Huh. Seeing how her instincts kick in like this, it makes me wonder if her intuition is also right about Jung?

It's obvious Jung has two modes, the one that we see with In Ho and In Ha, and the one he has when he's with Sul. It feels like the impression she originally had about Jung holds true when he's with the Bak siblings. However, considering the Bak siblings' personality, I can sympathize with him at being fed up, esp when In Ha is practically telling Jung that she's using him and his dad and has no intentions of stopping(a "money-grubbing bitch", as I said in my 2nd post). Anybody would be pissed off; yet he somehow retains his "I'm superior", calm and cool demeanor, even though you can tell he hates it.

Still, no doubt that the side of him that we see with Sul is just as genuine as what we see with the Bak siblings. He continually, subtly, advances into Sul's life, to the point where he is specifically altering his life to be around her; taking classes he doesn't need, using his free time to help Sul at her assistant job(that he subtly helped her get), talking to her about her problems...hell, even a year prior to current events when he make Asst prof Huh "lose" those document/reports so Sul can get the scholarship. It's clear that he wants to slowly make himself an important aspect in her life, but not for any negative intentions; simply because he likes and respects the woman she is. This is def one of the most realistic flow towards a potential relationship I have ever read in a manga/manwha/webtoon/whatever. It just feels that every chapter slowly creeps at such a possibility, but within the natural course of one's life as opposed to some instantaneous event that creates those feelings.

I knew it had to happen, it was just a matter of when it would happen. After everything Jung was doing, I was expecting a confession; yet, that's not what I got exactly. "Going out" doesn't necessarily mean "I'm madly in love with you" after all. It was strange though; Sul logically(lol, logically thinking about romance) though about how close he's been to her lately, and all that he's done for her, but it still felt like she was coerced into it out of her own fears. The intense stare she gave him, not looking away even for a second, when she asked him to pick up those documents(confession chap, s2 chp 18) spoke volumes about her reservations of Jung's "other" self. Jung himself admitted he had treated her differently back then than he does now, so I guess it's understandable that she has some anxiety about it all. Even so, it seems to me that Jung has every intention of furthering their relationship together; a man, even one as.... "considerate".... as Jung, wouldn't go through all of that trouble unless it's something he really cares about, so I don't think he would revert back to how he was during the one-year-ago flashbacks, unless Jung totally gets screwed over. This whole "need to tell Jung about In Ho" thing might just be the thing to push him over the edge, but I imagine Sul will tell him before long.

And speaking of In Ho, it's nice how he's slowly become accustomed to talking with Sul now. At first, I thought he was an asshole....well, he still IS an asshole, but at least he treats Sul with some respect and even a bit of admiration in the latest chapter[30]. If he is to harbor any romantic interest for Sul, chap 30 would be the general starting point. I'll expect, in standard Cheese fashion, for their relationship to progress so subtly, once the s*** hits the fan, I'll wonder when did it all happen(I'm still wondering when exactly did Jung start to fall for Sul? Jung himself doesn't even know).

And In Ha....continues to be the money-grubbing, lazy bitch as depicted 50-odd something chapters ago =0\. Again, I can see why Jung is cutting her off and being as cold as possible. She hasn't shown even the slightest redeemable quality. Even In Ho tries to do something on his own, but her.... I just can't wait until the "rematch" between In Ha and Sul. Generally, Sul keeps a reserved personality when its someone she doesn't know fairly well, but she's not one to be infinitely pushed around =03. I imagine a 1-on-1 confrontation/conversation would end quite differently than that previous encounter(s2 chp 28) would, but it will probably be some time before that happens.

And speaking of being pushed around, Yoo Jeon making a temporary return to find out Jung is dating Sul was quite a nice development. After Jeon revealed that she was the cause of the homeless/dementia lady attacking her, Sul pretty much started to drill her in. I'll at least give Jeon credit for coming forward all this time, but likewise, I can sympathize with Sul for being pissed off. At least they said what they needed to say and gotten that straightened out before the end. I still wonder about Jeon's words at how Sul and Jung are alike. Perhaps she was referring to their 'generally nice when nice' and 'aggressive when angry' mentality. That's my only guess =02.

Oh Young Gon coming back is sure to start something up in the future. It seems like he's trying to make Jung look bad while making himself look innocent, not mention how he got screwed over by Sul earlier in the series. Him and Jung is his own fault, but I can't really front him about the Sul thing though; wasn't like he was being an asshole, just....a bit too comfortable too quickly. Anyway, he's found the perfect partner(or idiot) to...I dunno, get revenge(?) with Sang Chul(I believe he gets along well with others). Other than that, I can't even begin to imagine what this plotline is headed.

First, the minor event; I've expected for some time, but I think more and more with each chapter he's acting 'suspicious', he's actually 'cheating' on AP Huh. I don't know exactly why he has to creep around his own neighborhood though, not that Sul has anything to do with it.

Now, the meat =03. When the title was "Uninvited Guest", I thought it was referring to In Ha, but it looks like it was for this moment with Jung. Damn, I've never seen so much pure hatred between characters in a love triangle before D0=. I was impressed that their hatred for each other didn't once spill out towards Sul at all. I don't think it'd affect In Ho's and Sul's relationship, since In Ho already knew she was hanging out with Jung(though not as his gf), but Jung...that look in his eyes was that same menacing look that puts shivers down Sul's spine. In combination to that, it felt like he was also disappointed, but I'm not exactly sure of what; is it because she's hanging out with In Ho as a friend when he hates the Bak siblings so much? Or was it that he feels betrayed in some way? I expect the trust factor between them to degrade a little. However, this being CiiT, I imagine that forgiveness to be right around the corner, but a reaffirmation of that trust might take some time. Or perhaps Jung will just sweep it under the rug for the most part and just be more adamant in being close to her. Now that I think about it, he did go all that way, opposite the way towards his home, just to check the windows and doors of Sul's apartment. That, coupled with the way he was holding her in this chapter kind of makes makes him overly possessive of her, in a similar way to Young Gon.

HA! Take that Jung! Once again, Sul shows why she is, like, one of the best protagonists ever =03! Shut your mouth pretty boy >=03.

But seriously though, she apologized enough and showed sincerity, but Jung still decided to act like a prick....to his defense though, it's understandable, seeing your girlfriend inviting the guy you hate the most to her apartment. Even so, he still had "that" attitude; the one that bothered Sul so much, she wanted nothing to do with him. I guess he is used to getting things his way all the time, which is why he expected Sul to just follow what he said. Fortunately, she's not so simple-minded to be pushed around by someone she knows, so it was refreshing, as always, to see her put Jung in his place. I'm hoping with that, Jung will eventually reveal what happened between himself and In Ho/In Ha that made him hate them so much.

No comment on the Bo Ra part at the end. I haven't the slightest idea what angle that'll play in helping Sul and Jung work things out. Hope I don't have to wait long to find out =03.

Before talking about up-to-date stuffs, I just want to briefly mention something from, like, s2 chp 35 or so. There was a moment where Bora's dad was in the hospital and Jung stepped away from Sul for a moment to check on things. It was then that he ended up in a room and found a remote car a boy had, but, according to the sister, was broken. Jung mentions how he used to have a toy like that and "kids like it because it moves exactly as it's told to", and that "they'd get bored of it eventually(paraphrased)". I'm guessing this was actually a reflection of Jung's current self. All this time, everyone and everything has moved to his wishes, and that probably bored him. Sul was probably the first one to defy his expectations in others; at first, in a negative way(looking away to avert his gaze, her personality around him, speaking against him[taken negatively] etc), and as he came to know her little by little through indirectly getting to be around her, shifted in a positive way(speaking her mind[taken positively], paying during group outings, etc). I suspect that is another core reason for his interest in her, and we see a mild shift during more last-year flashbacks from his perspective in more recent translated chaptes(a hell of a lot of things sure went on in that year's time )

I have to say that the whole incident of Sul finding out about Jung's role in having Prof Huh lose his report has gone off far different than I expected. Sul, once again, shows how well developed her character is by rejecting the kindness that Jung gave her unknowingly that day, and for good reason. She's always strives to work hard in order to make things work out, and being handed such a privilege is an insult to who she has become, even if it helped her immensely in the end. Despite how one would suspect a person to be happy, Sul does the complete opposite, and after explaining her reasoning, I clearly understand her point-of-view and source for her anger.

And the following events between Joo Yong(the gay guy fyi), Jung, and Prof Huh was kinda scary in a way. We get to see Jung's "other" side in full force. The looks in his eyes was terrifying, as he constantly tried to get Prof Huh to "talk alone for a sec". Despite Prof Huh's aggressive attitude toward Sul during her asst part-time job, the menacing looks of Jung were so strong, he couldn't even look Jung in the eye. So, as usual, I was greatly impressed at how Joo Yong just started cutting into Jung after he tried to apologize over and over. According to Joo Yong, like he's no different than he was before(getting that little girl alcohol in the flashback comes to mind), so the whole affair with how In Ho got his hands permanently damaged is starting to make more sense. I guess even though they avoided the wrath of Jung, it came at the expense of their relationship, though, considering how things were going, it might have been for the better.

In any case, running into In Ho while she's still thinking about how to take that situation(thanks to Joo Yong's advice to her) was unexpected, and In Ho's depressing flashback and subsequent tears was even more unexpected in that he has his depression moments, but even that is trumped by Jung catching the both of them while Sul treats him to a meal, with a smile on his face no less. I CAN'T WAIT to see what will they will be talked about! Given OSS's release rate, I won't have to wait long .

Whew; I asked to move this back from Archives with the intention of making a new post, only to have kept reading and reading. Unable to put it down, I ended up reading so much that commenting on all of the subtleties in a set of chapters in a way I'd be satisfied with and speaking on all of the points I wish to talk about would prove to be too much for me, and just gave up trying to comment altogether . I'll try and post bits and pieces at a time as I re-read old chapters and into the newer chapters I haven't read and finally finish reading this series.

So the dinner between Inho, Seol, and Jung was certainly interesting. Its not often there is a guy-girl-guy 'triangle' where all 3 parties know the guys vehemently hate each other, AND don't hide their hostilities. It was enjoyable to see Seol try to stop them from bickering only for her to get drunk and join in by telling them off. It was nice to see them join forces afterward taking Seol home and coming to a temporary truce of sorts. Not much to say for the brother, Joon's, entrance, but its already been shown how Seol is a bit jealous and also angry at how he gets preferred treatment(parents pay for his tuition aboard) when she has to work hard for hers, but they seem to have a decent relationship.

Given the 3-way 'date', I'd almost forgotten Jung and Seol were fighting. I'm glad Seol was able to see that there were many different components at work and different perceptions that created the situation with the scholarship and job and came to a reasonable agreement on how to feel about it. And Seol being the mature heroine she is, communicated exactly what she wanted to Jung, so that such a situation would not happen again. She even gets the story about Inho and why he hates Jung so much. Seol thinks there might be something more to it; I do as well, but I'll believe that he'll start to be more open with her naturally. Even if he did skimp some details about how Inho hurted his hand, I think it won't be too much that would lose Seol's trust in him.

Afterwards, their date was pretty cute; you can really see Seol get comfortable with Jung, probably the most she's been thus far in this series. The part where she gave him the watch, and he got closer to her, only for her to comment coyly that his laugh was annoying was such an adorable moment of the two of them! The diabetes was just oozing off of the panels .

Trouble at the prep school felt pretty trivial; a common behind-the-back bully scenario. But I did like the realistic approach it had to friendship. Miscommunication and non-communication can lead to a divide between people. I appreciate that Seol was able to admit to herself that it was both due to Seugeun's assumptions AND her own assumptions that lead to their lost friendship. I think this might have been the first time she "ranted" her annoyances to Jung, but she got some nice advice at least that gave her the motivation to confront the guy making all of the gossip. Glad Inho was able to give him a good slug in the face, though Seol got a good punch in too . A shame that Inho is leaving, but yeah, like he said, people come and go in your life all the time. I'm surprised he had made such an impact both to Seol and myself; I never thought he'd be so likeable, given his personality(which is a lot of things, simply said, but he's a good guy underneath it all =0) ). He will certainly be missed(for the moment at least, obvs he'll be back).

Its clear now that the landlady's grandson is the pervert, and it seems for his last stop, he'll pay Seol a visit. I wonder how that's gonna turn out ...
