QI - (Quite Interesting)

QI: Is a UK intellectual comedy based game show which I wish to share with my friends from across the pond. It is hosted by Stephen Fry who in himself is quite the logician.

The show is distinguished by the awarding of points not necessarily for the correct answer, but rather for an interesting one. Many of the questions and answers are extremely obscure. Points can also be deducted, quite interestingly, not simply because of wrong answers, but for obvious, or boring answers. Points are sometimes deducted for making an unoriginal or predictable joke or pun; this often results in a negative points score at the end of the game.

Well anyway, what I want out of this thread is not just humorous discussion about the show, but further examples of obscure facts which you may know.

We could all learn a little. Maybe?

Edit: Sort of a "Did You Know Thread"

QI is a wonderful show, awesome part of the BBC comedy 'range' on par with shows like Mock the Week.

Yes, yes it is. You then will understand why I wish to show this show to some of our more worldly members, here on animesuki's.

And this is the epitome of what I'm looking for. Bravo!

Did you know a Polar bears fur is not actually white? It is in fact translucent.

And so on...

QI is legendary, not just for Stephen Fry's presenting but for Alan Davies's scores in the game. My favourite moment in the series has to be the berries question, in which Alan Davies named 5 or 6 fruits ending in "berry" (i.e. Strawberry) of which none were Berries! I think he ended that show with around -80 points

There we are. Anyway. Um . . . What I want you to do now is to name a berry.

Alan
Blackberry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry --

[Forfeit: Klaxons sound. Viewscreens flash, in succession, the words "BLACKBERRY", "STRAWBERRY", and "RASPBERRY".]
Ended up on -84 points. For that one, it turns out a berry must have stones or pips, more than one. Wikipedia explains nicely.

LOL! Yer, I remember that one. I would have had the same score as Alan. Twas interesting to find out that a Tomato is a berry while a raspberry is not.

Such a great show...

There seems to be a QI website too, http://www.qi.com/
looks like quite fun, come on people give some more weird, silly humorous facts!!!

In the last decade of the 1900s, the Federal Aviation Commission estimated that bird collisions in-air or on the ground, caused $48 million dollars in damage. To combat this the airport at Gloucestershire, England, came up with a solution that drove the doves (and everything else) away. They replaced their recordings of bird distress calls, with some by Tina Turner - played at top volume.

Well I for one still watch this program and I am still amazed by its random showers of information.

For instance; I just found out that there is a fish that lives in a tree,
and has sex with itself to reproduce!

Science Part: The Mangrove Killifish is the only vertebrate that is a hermaphrodite that self fertalises.

Sorry for reviving but just had to share!

Yeah but Mock the Week is still, like, ten times funnier. But then again that's mostly because of Frankie Boyle.

I do watch QI a lot. Stephen Fry and Alan Davies are just awesome.

Mock the week = awesome. The show would be nothing without Frankie Boyle.

QI is also amazing. Stephen Fry ftw. Long Live Dave!
