I thought Ichika'd just put it somewhere for possible use, not really outright throw it out

No, TLR!Ichika flat out refuse it, where ST!Ichika indeed simply take Yukihira and surpass Chifuyu altogether.

The only good thing about it that he's not being a jerk, even if he's blunt about it, and his reason actually made Chifuyu happy, even if she disappointed. This is the reason Chifuyu didn't force him like in canon, he already has backbone

Some weirdo pervert idea entered my head for older harem.

Ichika cleans the house and finds an old film camera. He starts taking pictures with it. At that same exact moment Chifuyu comes running out in practically nothing but her birthday suit chasing Tabane who'd stolen the clothes she intended to change into after bathing. Ichika stares and his shutter finger starts twitching without moving away from the button as he enters a catatonic state.

Ichika always been like that if confronted by fanservice, DO WANT/DO NOT WANT conflict, so he just shut up and stood still.

If it was Canon Ichika, he probably will putting camera away, but not releasing it.

Man, Ichika's excessive "everyman"-ness is screwing with the progress of the KR crossover. Any part that stars him is just... too over the top to be him. And if I write any less I fear he may not be reacting enough. Geez...

EDIT: In short I never seem to be happy with how I write him.

Accept him or not, that's the only choice. Whether you hate him or like him came into consideration, but not the absolute factor. If you're not satisfied, just change him.

His mundane nature may clash with what you want, but think about it, he will be a good foil for Gentarou, who went 11/10 for everything. If you try hard enough, you will pull the charm at that. Hell, just give Ichika a small spine and it'll work.

He saw everything from 'normal' perspective.

For example, if he presented with the fact about Ran having a crush on him, he will be surprised about what she see in him. Or his osananajimi, on that matter, the first thing come to him is brother/sister like bond they share.

Ichika is a living, walking textbook, and even the slightest bit of personality WILL flesh him out. He refused Ran by claiming he saw her as a sister as well, conflicted between his desire for Houki or maintaining the harem integrity and status quo.

More ideas of changes for Bouclier re-write, somewhat drastic:

- Inami doesn't meet the CC cast during his first intervention. The Academy's security troopers simply watched as he brawls against the trio of Praxidike drones.
- He goes off to find Tsurugi in Hokota out of his own accord instead of being tasked to station there.

Thinking of having the two run into the CC cast when they're on their way to their seaside resort, though I'm not quite sure where that is on the world map... :P

I had the same problem until I decided to be lazy and write him as....generic.

Even as he crashed and accelerated again in an attempt to perform a high speed turn. He couldn't find it in himself to care anymore. The process became tasteless, mechanical. He was reminded of those days of swinging his shinai around filling him with memories of doubts surrounding him then. Was he really improving? Was swinging this shinai around really going to make him better? Ichika's mind flashed back to all his spars. He'd beaten a lot of the students then. Mostly lower ranked students who'd tried to climb up. Even among his peers which were a mix of adults and children like himself, his skill was respected. But in the face of a girl his age, he never seemed to have a chance. A girl whose scowl reminded him far too much of his sister. A girl whose strength was so far above his and yet leagues beneath the person he wanted to protect. He frowned, why'd he have to remember such a thing now? does this seem less dramatic?
