Are there any good visual novels for iPad in English?

You mean VN? ...well, there's a lot actually, totally different with androids. You just have to google them (it's not that hard). IIRC both F/sn and Tsukihime has been ported into IP platform. And of course, there's also the option of using emulators such as PPSSPP to play DanganRonpa or other other platform's VNs.

Go google them.

I suggest Ripples and Phantom Seeds. They are short, but they hit you in the feels.
