Somehow I missed this since it started. Spent the long weekend here in the USA catching up to episode 19.

My impressions:

It's a mix of Kuroko no Basuke, Dragon Ball, Ajinn, Ao Ashi, and Squid Game. Really cool concept of a survival of the fittest training camp and I really like the thought processes of mostly Isagi and a few others during the matches.

All of the backstories are done well and I feel like I know most of the characters, their personalities, strengths and weaknesses. There's a good mixture of strategy, deception, evolution, and not too insane "power ups/abilities". It's not super over the top like Kuroko no Basuke, but we do see some cool visuals with their eyes and movements.

The only thing I wasn't too big a fan of was many of Isagi's moments of despair...how he'd been outplayed, and how hopeless the current situation was. But now in the 2nd selection, he's got a 4 man team, hoping to face off against Rin.

Ego san truly is dedicated to conjuring up the best striker through this program, and Anri chan is just as passionate. The whole concept was new for a soccer anime. And that twist of not having Teams B-U was good as he made everyone think they were on the bottom.

Now that I'm caught up on the anime, it's going to be painful to wait once a week for new episodes.

The amount of monologues in the latest episode was insane. It was like watching the Chimera arc from Hunter x Hunter. I wonder how shorter matches would be if they avoided that.

Uggh... That ending was painful. It definitely showed the drawback and weakness in this selection process, and Ego was just was just covering up his mistake by trying to "move on" from that obvious mistake and quickly at that.

It's stupid that a crap player like Igarashi made it while one of the highest potential players, Kunigami, had to leave. Kunigami is probably better than 50% of the players that made it.

It's the luck of the team you're on, when you play too many top tiered teams in a row and however the story teller made the opposing team that way, ie somehow a stupidly strong player is sent down but lost a battle against a team that has no right to be beating that strong player.

Oh well, it was a fun series to watch, and I am looking forward to season 2. It's just annoying when they pull illogical stuff like this in order to make it surprising. I'm praying Iragashi's days are numbered soon, since he has been quite an annoyance throughout the series.

Can't believe 24 episodes have come and gone. I came into this anime pretty late (episode 19) and binged to catch up.

World's 5 stomped them so bad. Would actually be interesting if any of the other 6 teams scored more than 1 goal or gave the World's 5 more difficulty than Team 1.

I won't comment on the "English" as the anime industry typically does not go out of its way to hire foreign voice actors/actresses for these scenes. But then again, if Blue Lock can spend so many millions of currency on their "find the best striker" project, surely the anime industry could cough up the dough for a more accurate representation of the characters they portray, right? /s

So 7 teams of 5 is 35 players. 11 on field vs Japan's U-20 team, meaning at most 24 players of these will not get to play. The 3rd selection is the face off against the Jpn U-20, so will there be a Selection "2.5" to determine the 11 (plus subs) Blue Lock players?

It was interesting to see Rin lose his cool during English study period and Isagi was calm as a cucumber for once with his method of learning. Rin has been losing his cool a lot in these casual environments and I wonder if he's written to become less and less stoic and more and more annoyed at the expense of his teammates. He's definitely triggered at the mention of his brother so I'm glad there's a season 2 that can dive deep into that backstory.

Losing Kunigami was definitely a blow but not everyone can make it through and that's the sad reality. Was heartbreaking to see him go down the hallway in despair.

I thoroughly enjoyed this anime and cannot wait to see the next season.

Kinda hypocritical for Nagi to be pissed about Kunigami's removal though considering he had to make similar actions. Still, it was kinda exaggerated with that guy almost kicking him.

Can't wait for the next season. I think this is one of the anime that tried to do the best adaptation. Manga's art is so intense but they managed to replicate a good fraction of the intensity.
Next arc is probably one of the best I ever read out of sports genre series so I am excited.
