1st Episode was simple, and more slice-of-life.
Had similar vibe to Skeleton Knight (which is different from Manga & Novel i think). In a way, i am happy that "My Isekai Life" Anime didn't start out like it did in its Manga. Or else this would have become similar to that one.

What's the point of making this an Isekai story when the protagonist doesn't even remember anything about his old life? Like, why even use reincarnation angle if it doesn't really play into the show at all beyond why the protagonist is in that situation? Then again, they keep talking about it enough .
But hey, it's nice to hear a Kouki Uchiyama character that's fairly energetic and peppy . Wow, fall in love with a Goddess, manage to talk her into taking a vacation with you and basically bail on her job so she can be the voice in your head and your main menu...like, Kelvin ended up pretty well for himself even if he doesn't remember how he got there. And Melfina is voiced by Reina Ueda (lucky dog) . Is Melfina the Main Heroine? Our protagonist fell in love with her at first sight, she's the main person he converses with, she's apparently very beautiful and flattered by his feelings...the only problem is he doesn't actually remember his feelings for her, although he definitely wants to. Doesn't seem like the series has much of an overall goal beyond Kelvin growing into himself, save for getting enough MP to properly summon Melfina in the flesh . So Gods randomly reincarnate people? Kevlin isn't the first one? And he died from a complete accident by another God? I'm kind of wondering about the wider implications of that . Cue guild girls are cute . Slimes are much tougher than they look . So Kelvin's kind of like a Pokemon trainer, grabbing random monsters and naming them and fighting with them in combat. Cloth is pretty cute . Sucks that slavery is apparently legal in this world, not that Kelvin seems all that bothered by it besides that deep look he and the half-elf girl shared. I feel their fates are more intertwined than they realize...especially when she's in the montage at the end of Kelvin's seemingly future companions .

Kelvin became a summoner so he can summon his waifu. And he even believes that even if he lost his memory, he will still love the goddess waifu. That's dedication. Melfina's already top tier when it comes to assisting Kelvin and being a good support so all we need is how she looks to see how top tier she is as a waifu that Kelvin went the lengths in his reincarnation process for her.

Honestly this is one time when I appreciate how they are handling the isekai nature. It's actually being used as a plot point for his power. He isn't just full of OP potential just because. He actually used his memories as payment for it. And it's a good reason why this goddess is with him and why he's a summoner at all. Each point just builds onto the next and thus here we are.
I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it going in. Having him erase all his memories might have honestly made the isekai nature feel pointless if not done right. But I think they did well. We're counting on Melfina's interpretation of events here, but it is kind of cool that this guy fell so hard for her that he planned out his entire isekai setup just to end up with her in another world. Also nice that he had such a tough first battle. His kit isn't geared towards being an OP monster by himself at the start. Once he gets a summon it is a snowball effect thanks to the boost his summons get. But at the start it was a really tough one. He was getting wrecked there . This was better than I expected. And even though we don't get to see Melfina either, she's a pretty sweet companion.

He still has all the "Knowledge" from Earth/Japan & "Emotions" (without those, he would be nothing more than a newborn baby without personality or sense).

It's fine if the show wanted him to keep core knowledge memories, but I don't think the anime ever specified that.

The Opening is pretty stylized and kinetic (and also probably reusing a lot of stuff to save budget), showing off Kelvin and his future companions together. We also get plenty of sillhouette shots of Melfina! Seems like she might be a Japanese beauty with that haircut, maybe ?
Ange continue to be really cute! I like her enthusiastic and attentive personality! And the fact that she's in the ED (and Gerard thinks she's a Harem candidate) is a good sign . We've got the typical smug and condescending blonde pretty boy that is typical for these kinds of stories in Cashel, but he was suspicious enough even before it turned out he had the title of "murderer." Even the guild girls seemed wary of him. Although in true OP Isekai protagonist fashion, Kelvin is more than ready to knock him down a peg . The guild girls noticing Kelvin starting to talk to himself and reacting to him trying to shut Melfina up was funny . Kelvin is surprisingly good at trash talk and getting pumped for a fight than I expected! And he made quick work of Cashew and his crew, once again in true OP Isekai protagonist fashion . Clotho really is a Pokemon to the point of leveling up enough to evolve into Slime Gluttonia. He's even a Legendary, apparently! He's super effective and intimidating, but I'm glad Clotho can still take his normal, adorable, slime form . I was so pumped for Kelvin vs the Blackghost Knight AKA Gerard...but then Kelvin just chills out and talks to him so Gerard can introduce himself and his character backstory before offering Kelvin some old candy. That was pretty surreal, yet a nice change of pace . Of course we do get to have an actual fight, where everybody turns CG, which was kind of off-putting visually but I guess it's the most affordable way for them to do more involved action scenes here . So Gerard's kingdom was ravaged by a plague by the Lizea Empire...was that Hiroyuki Yoshino as Jildora? Are these the villains of this series ? We've got Gerard who is married to Betty and had a daughter named Connie...those are surprisingly mundane American names compared to Gerard's and the setting. Although their fate was pretty tragic, with Gerard losing his wife to the plague and possibly his young daughter too given the state she was in during his travels. No wonder he became a monster out for revenge. Hopefully Kelvin can give it to him . Everything's coming up Kelvin! He contracted with Gerard, he's gone up a rank, is now popular with his fellow guild members (and is even going to meet the head of the guild), and Cashel and his crew are going to get executed. Not a bad result at all . So now Kelvin has three voices in his head (Gerard, Melfina, and Clotho) and we've got Gerard treating him like a king and gauging his viable romantic interests to be part of his Harem, Melfina acting jealous because she's his fiance (even if it's mostly just an excuse for her to skip work), and Clotho being Clotho. Pretty fun banter . Hochuu Otsuka? Is that you? Is that the head of the guild ? The ED is pretty soothing and low-key, featuring Kelvin and his party relaxing against the fire and at the inn .

That is a rough break for Gerard. His King made a fair choice in not siding with a creepy Kingdom making extreme demands. But the cost was a heavy one. Everyone besides Gerard dying. Sucks that he had to watch his Kingdom fall, his wife pass, and likely the same goes for his daughter. No wonder he couldn't simply pass on after all that. At least the odds are good that Kelvin's journey will help him get revenge eventually.
The move to CG for the fight was a bit odd. But it at least still looked good. Maybe for all of Clotho's crazy moves that was considered a fair enough way to do it. At least they've mostly kept it to regular animation for the other action bits. I'll presume it was a stylistic choice since Satelight can absolutely handle doing big action sequences in standard animation. Ange is pretty cute and I'm happy that it seems like she'll be a standard presence in the show. While I still really enjoy Melfina, I don't mind Kelvin having other romantic interests at this stage. Especially since he's likely a long way away from being able to summon her.
