I started reading this manga to be amused, not to become aggravated..

With the way the recent chapters have been going, it feels like a lot of the targeted audience for this series are going to start dropping it.

I mean, Yuki calling out that dude's name in chapter 8 even after we find out what happens in chapter 11?

Iketani is just seen as shallow now after ditching the main character for that playboy.

Well, the backlash is huge on 2ch but consider that

Shou knows Sempai for like 3 years and has been carrying the torch for as long. Combined with the fact that her feelings for Utsumi are ONLY AT the budding stage (those feelings are real, but they are still not fully realised). Objectively speaking, if sempai is to compete directly with Utsumi, our man really don't stand a chance.

I don't take it as Shou is shallow. She likes the (in her eyes) wonderful sempai, who she knows for far longer, was dumped by his girlfriend (getting sympathy points) and says he "loves" her now (which is what she wanted, but cannot get, for so long). Of course, we feel aggrevation for Utsumi because we empathise (or sympathise) with him, but I do not think Shou is really shallow. Unless everyone's defination of shallow is being true to her own feelings.

Remember, Shou doesn't really know if Sempai is a playboy or anything. The sempai she knows for 3 years seemed only to show her his "good, wonderful side"

Despite all that I do agree that "person" gives off very bad vibes to me. Namely because,

The sempai said he was dumped and he came back to Shou. But something about him feels off, he seems too slick, too experienced at reading and manipulating people to be that type who gets dumped. This can be seen in his correct inference of Shou and Utsumi's reactions (there was no indication he knew about that before), his quick disarming of Shou and correctly detecting Shou liked him enough to be taken so easily. We easily get the impression that he might actually be trying to two-time (but this is unlikely because he never went after Shou while he had a girlfriend...unless he is lying about his girlfriend dumping him now) or he is some kind of predatory serial woman hunter. Another possibility, is that Sempai wants to use Shou to make his girlfriend jealous (if he was indeed dumped by her).

Of course, Shou likes him too much, and is too used to his wonderful side (2-3 years of interaction), to look at the Sempai carefully like an uninvolved observer (the readers). And it can be possible that our inferences are actually wrong (though that doesn't seem likely)

It would suck if there was some utlerior motive, we see such cases happen too much in real life. Are those girls shallow? I don't know, but I would like to think they love the person who cheated on them enough to believe their lies. I hope nothing bad happens to Shou, she is a nice girl...just a little naive.

As for Chapter 8 and Chapter 11,

I don't think Yuki will forgive the other guy....the reason she helps Utsumi is that she wants to believe in love again. She loved "Touru" (if that is his name) so much and his betrayal wounded her so deeply that she no longer wants to have anything to do with love. But love is a messy, confusing thing that makes people do stupid things, its most likely residual feelings within her than anything. Some people will think this is foolish, but its not that easily to let go of a first love (as alot of older folks will understand).

On the other hand, Magazine's target audience is towards the upper age end of the shonen demograph. The reason why we empathise or sympathise the main character(s) is because they are written well (and some what realistically). Lets see if these see will really lose its audience (by checking out its ranking on the magazine front covers for the next few weeks).

No, it was vague. But she did say something about trusting him, being betrayed and it hurts badly. To clear things up, those guys...

used a camcorder and not a cell phone unlike what some people here mentioned. Its not clear if its consensual, but I doubt someone like Yuki will allow other people to use a camcoder to record what she was doing (or what her ex was doing to her). Then again, the camcoder might be used for replays only, who knows right?

I think it was most likely consensual reading between the lines after what Yuki said. And although I dont think Shou is THAT shallow, I do think she gave in too easily and didnt even let herself evaluate her feelings for Utsumi. Anyways I always preferred Yuki, hopefully after this, they become alot more closer to each other and when the time comes for Yuki to trust in love again, I want Utsumi to be the man she falls in love with. But I feel really sad for Utsumi as the guy was maturing for his love and really gave it his all, nd just when Shou showed him the peaks of heaven, she mercilessly threw him down to the depths of hell.

Then maybe afterwards Shou will get dumped by the guy she likes after he gets tired of doing her she'll see it was a mistake and that she should have gone with Utsumi instead but by then he'll have started to have feelings for Yuki. Your lost Shou.

Now while this is somewhat bound to happen I think it's too early for YukixUtsumi to take shape already, this series has just started after all, unless the author wants to show us countless break ups and make ups like some other retarded series I don't even wanna remember.

Speculations

Its possible the next few chapters is about how much a bastard the Shou's sempai is and has everyone trying to "save" Shou from Sempai. Or it could be Yuki's past comes back to haunt her. I do agree its too early for Yuki and Utsumi to get together.

Anyway, Utsumi, Yuki and Shou are all nice people. I usually don't want nice kids to suffer....but lets see how much drama will happen...down the road.

EDIT: I almost forgot that there is the yankii girl....who really had the most stupid reason to want to lose her virginity ever. She can be the unexpected 3rd column!!!

At this stage, Yuki has more admiration for his character than romantic feelings. It will make more sense as the series gets translated.

man, shou's senpai looks like he could be Utsumi's elder brother, just look at #13 where the two are shown next to each other through panels, same hair and face . Not saying he could be his brother though, it just caught my eye.

...seems pretty clear to me, don't see any misunderstanding here either tbh - i assume Shou told him the truth about still having feelings for her senpai, dumps Utsumi who cries on Yuki's shoulder. Good to see the protagonist getting dumped and bursting out in emotion, I'm getting good credibility vibes here. Glad it's not a dumb harem where the protagonist gets the girls instantly through some single dumb action of kindness (except the lolipop-scene in Hatsukoi Limited, that one was great)but grows by bad experiences as well

Probably due to the author having more practice in drawing girls than guys, her blog is full of drawings of girls. So Sempai looking like Utsumi is probably not too unusual, I will chalk it up to her style. Either that or "guys that look similiar" tend to appear around Shou's life. LOL

To dispel a common misconception about this author, Sasuga Kei is actually a Sasaki Keiko. She is a 28 year old lady. She was shortlisted for the newcomer prize with "Find New Way" 2 years back and had her entry printed in Magazine Special. Then she won the Dragon Mangazine contest with the one shot "Smile Answer" In the same year, GE got serialised because the "Good Ending" oneshot was sorta epic and drawn alot of reponse

So yeah. I wish noone will call her a "him" again :P

I believe most of the character's emotions (especially the girls) are depicted relatively realistically because she is a lady. But that could be just me.

I had my suspicion the author being a woman and all. The story is just way too girly and naive to be considered made from a guy's point of view. Let's see if its gonna end up like Hatsu Limited or not aka being hacked early.
