The nazi character Katsue is kinda like a penpal to Kinji after the War, and Kinji uses her to find info on Demonic Blade couple. The Witches are willing to be hired for jobs on a one hundred million yen per person basis. He asked Jeanne for help as well but got told Kinji's too obsessed over them. (Side note, Jeanne likes Japanese cuisine and also bums food off Kinji when Lisa and Shirayuki is cooking).
Also, with the Scarlet Irokane now in space and with less interference, supernatural users in Japan are back to full power again.
While the main body is back in space SG left a chunk as big as a volleyball in Shirayuki's clan. It's still the biggest chunk of Scarlet Irokane in the world. As a side effect from the Irokane for being there so long there's many ruby veins in the mountain, and Kinji wondered last time he was there maybe he should have picked up a handful of pebbles that could have been rubies
Shirayuki feels her prophecy of Kinji disappearing still hasn't came to pass yet, despite Kinji saying it counted when he left Butei High and tried to be a civilian.
End of year graduation ceremony, Kinji notes the 3rd years that aren't usually around are all here, and the combined pressure is overwhelming to students that can sense that. Kinji wonders if by the time he graduates he'll be that good as well. Kinji's old team is here, though Reki is still in Russia.
Joining others that came to greet Aria and others for finishing the year was Aria's mother - Shirayuki's clan due to their influence of being Irokane AKA "supernatural nukes" caretakers forced the government to release her. The release was partly because whatever information Aria's mother knew that forced the government to take drastic actions to fake her crimes and keep her is no longer relevant, since Scarlet Irokane's main body is no longer in Japan, and partly because Aria with the power of 'Scarlet Ammo' can nuke them all as easily as SG could.
Also, related there was a government plan to exile Kinji from Japan that got shelved as well.
After the ceremony Kinji got called to the faculty offices, along with a ex-classmate named 一石雅斗 (no idea how to spell that in romaji). Sniper, vehicle and assault focused. He used to be in the same class as Kinji in 1st year. In Asia SDA rankings (basically regional Butei high scores) this guy is ranked 55th, compared to Kinji's 71st, so Kinji feels elated there's others around his age that's more of a monster than he was and bumps Kinji down the list.
It turns out Kinji, ex-classmate (I'm just gonna call him that for now) and one other person (a girl named 佐伯) is offered a chance by the Butei national Inspector agency, that Kinji's father belonged to when he was alive, to take the Butei Inspector professional exam early. Inspectors are elites and the exam are so hard that there might not even be a new Inspector per year from the various graduates. Usually this exam is for people that graduates from Butei universities.
Due to personnel shortages the agency decided they need more people, and even though if Kinji and others can't be a full Inspector even if pass due to their age, they can still get positions such as Aides or Reserve Members. There's a high death rate for Inspectors, 30% dies before they retire, and they get pitiful amounts of salary.
佐伯 came right out and said she declines, because Inspectors are there to be cannon fodder and take bullets for more valuable Buteis. Kinji also declines, as he doesn't think he has the skills to pass the exam. Ex-classmate however says he'll take the exam, to everyone's surprise - not even the teacher thought there'll be people suicidal enough to go for this. It turns out ex-classmate idolized Kinji's father after he and his younger sister was saved by Kinji's father when he was young kid, and ex-classmate had a dream to become a Inspector. Due to there being no limits to retaking the exam until 25 years old, ex-classmate want to try every year and build upon the experience.
Teacher tried to dissuade him, saying he'll likely be pulled into Reserve Member status (with no chance of refusing as that'll be a order from superiors above) even if he fails the exam, and ex-classmate says he'll take those chances to go from reserve member to full Inspector.
Ex-classmate stays for further details while Kinji and 佐伯 leaves, Kinji is envious that ex-classmate has the drive/purpose in life, and Kinji feels insecure that he doesn't have a plan for his future.
