Even though this post is from a while back, maybe because it's so too, but porno is pretty normal around these parts and it's like something that would be weird NOT to do. Yeah so in fact people in these parts ask a dude when he's watching porno "is that anime?" and not the other way around. Well anime ain't that weird either, anymore, since it's surfacing with the Y2-generation, coming after the first tech-generation in the second tech generation. Z-generation seems to be the name. Like super tech kids.

Soon we'll be having Generation A with their mechas and cyborgs and shit

--> A since from what I'm reading, Z is the last of the English alphabets, and a renewed timer goes well, since the Mayan calendar ends in 2012 and it's said that it just means that a new time will begin rather than that the world will end, and 2012 could be a fitting time for the new generation too, maybe we'll get out first AIs in those times Yeah instead of Windows giving an error window, it'll say "wait a minute" and fix the problem on its own, and then say "there ya go" and you'll say "thanks buddy" and it'll respond "no problem". Basically basic AI. You'll be shooting aliens in some Halo 9 ½ while it'll suddenly say that it found a release of Mary XXXMas' new porn film called Lesbians Just Wanna Have Fun 5 on the internets with the automatic internet search you have programmed and it'll ask you if you want to get it, and you'll say "hell yea" and it'll say "thank you, I'll get it to folder Blah Blah." Then you'll continue blasting the aliens with your deadly ray gun.

To fellow fans alike, I would be ashamed to mention Inuyasha. I know it loses focus like woah, but I adore the settings, the music and Inuyasha himself so much that it was actually enjoyable to watch for me.

To people in real life who has little exposure or are non-fans, probably any generic shounen stuff that I came to like, i.e. Naruto, Inuyasha, Hunter X Hunter and of course, One Piece, the best of all. I probably don't want others to think that anime is always childish.

Inuyasha is ok, since I treat the series as 1 entity. The anime is lacking, yes, but at least the manga ending wasn't that bad.

I don't have any "guilty pleasures", since a "Don't give a damn" person like me doesn't really have anything to hide...I wouldn't watch something if I didn't like it, and I wouldn't talk about it if I wasn't proud of it...

But if I have to fill in the field, I dunno...Would a hentai title count?

*runs away*

Hentai certainly is a guilty pleasure. Well, I don't watch it.

Ah I was thinking of making a topic discussing this but I think I'll just revive this thread.~

Anyway, I'm certain everyone here has a series which is a guilty pleasure for them. Something you know is bad and/or doesn't meet up with your standards for "good entertainment", yet you're able to enjoy it despite that.

If I had to pick one right away mine would be Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.

I usually despise series like this. Incredibly crude, incredibly perverted, incredibly obnoxious, has no amount of shame for what it's doing whatsoever and insults the intelligence of every self-respecting person who watches it, and yet I freakin' loved this one.

If I had to take a guess why it's because the show is presented in a way that makes it all very easy to accept and tolerate. It's also incredibly unique among Japanese animation as there's practically nothing else in the medium like it. I do have to respect a show which wanders so far away from the anime standard and still churns out an entertaining result.

There's most likely more, but they don't come to mind right now.

I really dislike simple one dimensional harem and ecchi anime with no storyline, but I'd be lying if I said I was immune to the seduction of a particularly attractive character, because of that, sometimes I find myself enjoying the really well drawn ones on a purely aesthetic level. For example, I remember thoroughly enjoying the first episode of Kanokon. I quickly fell in love with Chizuru, but unfortunately as soon as the overused and boring archetype dandare was introduced I dropped it anyway, since it was hanging on a narrow thread.

The other kind of guilty pleasure anime are the silly comedies. Nichijou is a great example.

I agree, I generally find myself liking deeper things with some kind of subtle beauty (Mushi-shi), or some super awesome avant garde out there whacky but tasteful anime (FLCL). Panty & Stocking is so in your face, but it's so killin' for a low pressure funny anime.

I have to say, I did watch MM! mostly for the ecchi value. I was turned off by the whole masochist thing but I got over it pretty quickly, kinda glad I watched it to help desensitize me to some of that stuff. Everyone in that show is super kawaii =3 lol, again, not my typical thing.

Right now I'm thinking about watching Sailor Moon but not too sure yet. I gotta research it more.

Wait, crossdressing, and no Mari Okada? Impossible!

Besides School Days, which is the definition of Guilty Pleasure anime? Infinite Stratos, the second season of Darker than Black, and Da Capo II (both seasons, although I liked the second one more) come to mind.

Don't worry,I checked after watching the episode.

It wasn't Okada that wrote the screenplay for that episode but Tatsuto Higuchi a writer that worked with her on Toradora and Hanasaku Iroha.
Okada must be proud of him

I'm not really "guilty" about most shows I watch. Even if I derive meta or "so bad it's good" enjoyment from them, I'm not exactly ashamed of that. If it's entertaining, it's entertaining.

That said, Ro-Kyu-Bu probably qualifies. It was fun, it toyed with loli tropes, but oh god it played so many of them so brutally straight... and the double entendres and the fanservice and the freaking basketball match in swimsuits... I really can't defend this show but I still enjoyed it.

Certain harem animes count. They're often cliched, and stupid but still enjoyable....for me at least. The Rosario + Vampire anime was quite maligned but I still kind of enjoyed it.

I have two, and though neither are really quite guilty pleasures, each gets that designation for the same reason: Fan service. I absolutely cannot stand fan service because of how blatant and gratuitous it is, and animes suffer for having it (in my opinion). That said, my first "guilty pleasure" is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The original plot was good, the movie was great, the episodes are all pretty humorous, and the characters are interesting. But you know what my friends think of it? "It's that anime with the bunny girls." And it is! This is the anime that shameless depicts the main character dressing up and groping another girl. This is the anime where that second girl is explicitly in the story because "she has a cute face and large breasts." That theme runs unavoidably through the series (even in the movie, which is actually notable for only having about a minute of fanservice in its three hour runtime), and it taints what could otherwise be a good anime. But of course, I still like it.

The other anime warrants a significantly shorter paragraph because, simply put, I haven't really watched it. However, I've downloaded every episode of Ben-To and scanned through each (I've only watched the first episode in full) because I absolutely love the appearance and mannerisms of Sen Yarizui. I think the plot is stupid and I think the fanservice is totally unwarranted. But Sen is really appealing to me, so I keep checking each episode out. What can I say?

The most triumphant example I've got at the top of my head is Kannazuki no Miko. The characters are jokes and up until the halfway point Chikane is the only interesting character for some very questionable reasons. But because her presence isn't truly felt until then, the poor collision detection and fight choreography doesn't do any favors for the predictable first half. The only good things that can be said about this anime are the music, last 1/3 of the series, and ending, which carried just enough emotional punch for me to overlook some very crippling flaws. At the very least, it's something that Yamibou didn't have (and I watched Yamibou before KnM), but overall I can't blame anyone for not being very favorable toward Kannazuki no Miko.

There's also Jinki:Extend. None of the characters are assertive attractions to hook the viewer into the story, or have any coherent motivations, and the narrative itself jumps around the timeline without any warning or even hint of such a thing happening. I think the only reason I watched this show was for the cool factor and moe', which I guess hit all of the right notes for someone with my taste (or as in the case with the shows I'm mentioning, lack thereof?).
