Ah yes, forgot about the whole Triangle Heart OVA-Nanoha connection. It's a bit difficult to compare the two of them since they're quite different from each other, but I'll have to say I liked Nanoha (the anime franchise in general) a lot more due to having both stronger characterization and more exciting action scenes.

I liked a lot of the U.C. Gundam series. they were sort of spinoff/sequels so...but zeta was great and also 08th MS and especially 0080 (maybe my favorite little series ever)

I didn't like GitS:SAC much, but 2nd Gig made me love ALL of GitS. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed Black Lagoon The Second Barrage as well as xxxHolic:Kei.

Full Metal Panic has some great sequels... specially Fumoffu!

Banner of Stars did a great job with the following 2 seasons... no complaints.

Not sure if there is a thread about "the worst sequels" but if there is one Zero no Tsukaima would definitly take the first place.

Sequels I loved. FMP:TSR (Fumoffu wasn't a sequel, it was BSides)
Vandread 2nd Stage
Seto No Hanayome OVA.
