now is hope that this money (mostly) is used in the production of Index III and not by some corrupt executive who wants do sex tourism in some poor country.
Depends, does Warner want to do sex tourism in poor countries?

... hahem. Jokes aside, those figures are fine/good. As Chaos and Acer-bro said, the movie already got 500million yen in the box office. It's not like it was a 7-years-handdrawn-1billion-yen-budget-movie or something.
Just look at Stardriver movie, that was (probably) a flop.

437 million yen... Thats how much the BD/dvd sales have brought in for the first week. Plus the 490 million yen in ticket sales.

I doubt it for multiple reasons. Nanoha A's was the most well received installment of the Nanoha franchise and the movie has only been out for half a year but still sold quite well. Second, TaMnI:EnK doesn't have English subtitles while Nanoha's movie did. I know the international/exporting sales aren't too big a factor but they still play a part and I doubt people outside of Japan would be as willing to buy TaMnI because of that. I mean, I bought the LE's for Nanoha because they had subtitles while I didn't buy TaMnI:EnK because it didn't have subtitles.

Anyway you can compare it to preious anime movies here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/anime/commen...nkings_update/
Ofc. it still need another week or two for the sales to be final
And then add cca +25% to be accurate (because Oricon data show 20-30% less sales than real numbers)

That's why I ask if that figures are total sales in how many weeks. Its only been a week since the movie is release right?
50k (first week no less) is an excellent number for a movie BD/DVD sales. Most anime movies don't make half that much, as someone else said. This is a great success, hands down. It should end up over 60k when all is said and done, which should cement Index III (as if it weren't already happening) and more movies to come. The only anime movies that sale over 100k in discs are Nanoha, Haruhi, Gundam, and Evangelion. Even UBW "only" sold 69k and FMA Seinaru Hoshi sold 32k. So yeah, for a late night anime that doesn't even have the prestige of Fate, Index has done excellent.

It's definitely not coming close to 100k.

It's only the first week sales.

The movie has brought in roughly 1 billion yen off of ticket and disc sales alone.....that's not even counting merchandising which very likely brought in even more money for them than that total alone. I wouldn't be surprised if index movie makes back well over 3x its production cost counting all revenue...but that's getting pretty presumptuous I guess.

Those are great sales. Especially in the first week and with how much it did in the box office.

Would be naive of me to hope for a third Index season with similar or close quality to the movie?

more naive than a girl of 12 who think that first love is the one, but at least should have a handful of episodes (4or 5) with an animation more or less similar.

Probably similar or better quality to Railgun S. They won't be repeating an Index II for sure (I hope, too). Just one season was mixed not all!
