Ahahaha, Edolas Lucy is awesome. I swear to god I crack up every time she speaks. I love how all the personalities of the Edolas versions are flipped on their head from the originals. Makes for a hilarious dynamic.

Liked to see the reverse guild, a lot of funny moments. An evil Lucy is cool, like her arguing with Levy too.
Real Juvia would die to be in Edolas Juvia's place.

This episode we got a lot of background on Edolas and how the arc will continue. The last episode was OK but compared to this episode it wasn't that good at all, we finally have a direction now.

Wendy and Natsu are finally up to speed and we've ditched the minor guild members so that progress is nice. Also we've got a bit of an explanation why the Edolas guild is so on edge. Lucy seems to have gotten the moniker Scary Lucy although deep down she's just a generic tsundere. She even says that line which kind of pushed the limits for acceptable non-parody characterisation unfortunately. Although she does show some nuance so I hope that was just a one off obvious characterisation moment.

We get introduced to the remaining villains and the black guy is actually a black Panther Lily. Dog boy Coco is actually a girl and Hughes is like whoa totally different from Midnight which doesn't refute my Hughes=Midnight theory. Old guy'z the king and really old guy haz a speech impediment. Their plot dumping was an acceptable realistic conversation.

I'm still liking the atmosphere of Edolas although it makes parts of Earthland seem boring in comparison. It's amazing what putting a crap ton of stuff into an alternately coloured sky does to atmosphere.

It does seem like kind of a sensible idea to limit using magic when it's a non-renewable resource but the king is hoarding it for himself (probably for evil (possibly immortality)) so I'm not that worried on that part. Anyway Lucy at the end revealed she can use her key magic (The scene they told Lucy about that was funny because they obviously couldn't explain it well). So we should be seeing some good Lucy fights this arc.

I'm interested in what Gajeel is going to do with his writer friend as well. It seems he still has his steel hard body in this world. The magic shop owner in this world however was the same as the one at the start of the series so he's kind of the same as well. Since the sign said Bobby on the front I was expecting Bob to be the shop owner though so that was kind of a disappointment.

So my assumptions about Lucy her celestrial magic is correct; however, I hope they will explain it next episode. It also looks like Natsu and Wendy will learn how to use their magic next episode as well.

As for Gajeel, since he still is hard as steel, I bet he has already figured out how to use his Dragon Slayer magic.

Since magic is used through objects in Edolas, it would seem that the magicians of Earthland can wipe out the ones in Edolas with ease if they can use their magic (i.e. Earthland Lucy easily handling those knights, while Scary, er I mean Edolas, Lucy was more intent on hiding).

An Erza vs. Erza battle would be awesome.

Also, since it did not look like any of the Exceed were in the kingdom, where are they then? Why are they so feared? Are they with the kingdom or against the kingdom?

Also, Carla mentioned before that Anima was after Fairy Tail because she and Happy were there. I kept assuming that Exceed and the kingdom were together, but now I am not so sure. Could Exceed be special beings that carry magic within themselves and not use magical objects like others on Edolas? Hence, they are feared so much?

Also, what are Exceed's goals then?

So many new questions when one or two is just answered. This is becoming a very exciting arc indeed.

Spoiler for Episode 80 & scenes from next week:

Wow, this episode was almost 2 full chapters from the manga, so far every episode from this arc was 1 chapter = 1 episode. So less filler but was still slightly drawn out points in the manga (2.5 - 3 chapters is a typical episode with minimal filler/changes). The worst part of all epiode imho was the low budget effects used for Coco's running (a part I hated to begin with but the it was done here in the anime in even lower quality than the manga did it, which made it that much worse )... though that was cannon. And one of the better parts, Gajeel in the town, is pure filler.

Over all, I'm disappointed in this episode though that might be since I wasn't expecting the ep to end before a Lucy could react to Lucy. I was so looking forward to a few more seconds of Earthland Lucy seeing Edolas Lucy and them both reacting to each other and the rest of ch 172. Oh, well... something to look forward to next episode (Not really a spoiler since everyone knows that will happen and since I didn't say how they react)

Btw for anyone wanting to jump into the manga this episode covered up to 2/3rds of the way through ch 172.

Thank god the spoilers of next week show two Lucy's only in towels... though watch that whole scene be really toned down (like all Fairy Tail fanservice in the anime when vs the cannon manga content). I really fear so since Edo Lucy wears way more than her manga counter part (who's even more revealing than Earthland Lucy when it comes to outfits). Too bad the 3rd Lucy wasn't in a towel too

I think I know why Lucy can still use her magic! It's because the keys open dimensional portals to the Spirit World, and don't rely on the inherent magic of the user and/or environment in order to function. At least, that's my theory.

Is his Earthland counterpart Ichiya, the short fat guy that keeps on saying "men"? What hit me with that was his chin. They both have the same chin that I cannot recall anyone else having in Fairy Tail.

How did Lucy escape from being captured in Lacrima like the rest of the guild? How did Gajeel do the same? Is it related to how they can use magic in Edolas? The Kingdom captains mentioned that a lot of the people without magic in Magnolia was also captured in the Lacrima, so it is strange that these 2 escaped.

You can see in the opening and the mid-episode thing that Ichiya is a cat in Edolas. So no, Sugarboy is not Ichiya's counterpart. I'm pretty sure he's no one's counterpart, as well as everyone else in the Royal Knights other than Erza. It's not like everyone important in Edolas has to also be important in Earthland, is it? Some people can just be people, right? This isn't just a cameo arc, it's also got its own story and villains and such.

Congrats Lucy you've now become one of the most powerful in that world . Just the ability to use her keys will really help push the power balance. In some ways it makes sense and in others it's still confusing. After all opening the gates was supposed to depend on the mage's ability, like they would get drained after using too many high level spirits. Though the fact that they are linking to the spirit world makes it interesting. They aren't using magic in that world like Natsu, but bringing magical spirits to that world. Maybe since they arrive through the gate they don't deal with the limitations of that world.

Still some questions like why Lucy is there and not stuck in a giant Lacrima with the rest of them? At least we now know where Gajeel is and he seems to be doing his own thing just fine.

Should be fun to see some Lucy and Lucy interactions. Will probably find plenty about the other to be pretty odd. After all already had Scary Lucy laughing about the writing a novel thing. Will say Scary Lucy made for a pretty reasonable tsundere. Clearly not minding at times dealing with a more assertive Natsu .

Back to the usual Fairy Tail pacing, which is what i like to see. Good have done without the narrator. It's pretty annoying how he's used only when the anime needs to explain certain matters, because it totally destroys the mood. Ah well.

Seriously can't wait for next weeks episode . Sure the preview is full of spoilers, though that's nothing new at all.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Maybe I should just stop watching Fairy Tail for a few weeks and just marathon through them afterwards. It will help with the questions and anticipations.

I so agree with this. It makes no sense at all to use him to Introduce Gajeel?? yeah, I see the point of using the narrator to introduce new characters (not that it's good at all), but isn't it redundant to specifically point out that this is the Earthland Gajeel? Do they think we audience are stupid?

So more clarification on Edolas. Get to meet the villains. Scary Lucy tells us about how to use magic in Edolas. Of course Natsu was going to pick a fire weapon and Wendy and air weapon. I wonder if Natsu can eat the flame in order to get a power up.

So Gajeel s safe and looking for the FT lacrima. I wonder how he knows so much. Also looks like he might have figured out how to use his magic. Funny how is counterpart is a writer.

Best part was at the end even though it was brief. Lucy meets Lucy! More question though surrounding Lucy. Seems like she's one of the strongest in Edolas now.
