Frankly, I am not bothered with "Negi's love" Having 1 admitted will mean disappointed fans for 29+ girls. So...leave it to readers interpretation is good.

I see why people are mad about the other points though.

I heard that the fanservice and harem wasn't Akamatsu's original plans. He wanted shounen like what Negima became later on but his publishers wanted another romcom like Love Hina. He was forced to go with that but managed to sneakily insert what he wanted into it until by the time the publishers realized it was too late lol.

Better to have 80% or so of the shipping fanbase let down than 100%

Besides, he was ending the series anyway. What were they going to do if they were unhappy with the winner girl? Stop buying it?

Of course, in the publisher's defense, I really wonder just how memorable Negima would have been if Ken Akamatsu didn't include the "harem" aspect in it (as I really feel a lot of Negima's strength was due to the development that Akamatsu gave to a some of the female characters).

Akamatsu's biggest problem with his Genre Shift was he started posing and teasing too many questions, but he couldn't or didn't want to properly answer them. In a romantic comedy, that isn't such an issue, but once you're writing a much more serious and bigger in scope story, you have to give actual answers or you end up with what's called a Kudzu Plot.

The second biggest problem once he took the action genre was the power escalation went too fast and too high, but only for Negi, which made it even worse than if everyone else (of the fighters) had powered up accordingly as well. Even in the new manga's setting, that's going to be a problem, because sooner or later, when a big threat pops up, you'll have to wonder why the uber powerful mage with an obscenely high sense of responsibility, tons of allies everywhere, and eyes almost everywhere at both worlds, just doesn't swoop down and beat the threat silly easily, instead of having an inexpert young turk to be the one who saves the day. Making things even more unabalanced and serious threats even more unlikely and difficult to buy, at this point Negi would hang out with Nagi, who is just as broken as him.

EDIT: nvm, google has enlighten me. Oh God, protag looks like standard shounen hotblooded dumbass. Not a good sign there. Series title seems silly, and not in the inspiring kind of way.

I try not to infer too much from the art without at least trying a series, but those pics have me worried. That protagonist looks awfully generic....Well, if its got one thing going for it, its that it doesn't look like a harem comedy.

I wonder if he will tie this one into his over-arching canon by having a character (maybe the protagonist?) be a shinmeiryuu practitioner, seeing as how swords seem to play a large part. The MC seems to be a dual-wielder too, despite how he is pictured. Yes, I know the blade on his back might just be a spare, but really when was the last time you saw a character carry two swords and not use them at the same time? Outside of a historical setting of course...

I don't think that's the only that people will have a field day with in terms of connecting UQ Holder with the rest of the Akamatsu-verse, as one of the adult characters looks like someone who could be related to Negi, while the attire of one of the female characters pretty much screams the fall/winter outfit of Mahora Academy.
