Hajime is completely out of her fucking mind, and the rest of the team have assorted numbers of loose screws. That's what is making this one hell of a super power squad.
The moment the theme song started I realized I was watching something from the 70s-80s with modern animation. It's so awesomely old school I suddenly remember doing assorted poses as a kid back in the 80s-90s when I used to watch all those old Sentai shows. Goddammit now I want to watch Shaider and Bioman.

Anyway, yeah, decent episode. Not that impressive, but enjoyable. Hajime is the star, no doubt. The Engrish (maybe not in terms of grammar but pronunciation?) OP is cringe-worthy though :P.

On the whole that was good fun. While Hajime could be seen as annoyingly vacuous and perky I think the fact that she's just completely unfazed by all the weirdness going on makes for a refreshing change.
The NOTE extraction was in some ways reminiscent of Kyubey extracting a soul gem, a comparison boosted by the idea that the NOTE is their soul. But Hajime thought that was cool too. Irrepressible! Clearly, Hajime has never read any comics and is completely unaware of the concept of 'secret identities', and that amused me too. And i loved it whenever the "GATCHAMAAAAAN!" bit happened. |

Well, consider me intrigued. Gave this a go as the entire summer season is one huge moe blob of slice.of-life-disappointment, and I was checking out the few shows that had some promise.
On paper, this is a bit too far in the super sentai direction to interest me, and for the first half I was unsure whether I'd like it or not, but by the end of this episode, I was hooked :3 Definitely a surprise favourite and on my (sadly sparse) watchlist for this season- only Danganronpa, Free! and shows continuing from last season, e.g. MJP and Shingeki no Kyojin. To be honest, what had me intrigued was the introduction of a female lead, something most shows don't have the balls to do (I'm looking at you, mecha genre). Actually couldn't believe Hajime was really the lead after the first episode, so I looked it up, and wow- she actually is. All in all an interesting plot, nice and refreshing fun lead character without all the angst and emo, great music and the show looks absolutely gorgeous once you get used to the unusual style of hair colouring. Definitely will be waiting for this one each week |

Nope. That’s why I put a question mark on my in-brackets comment. It’s just an assumption that the English lyrics are probably grammatically correct (though I doubt it). Few anime theme songs use the correct grammar. From the top of my head, I think Bleach's ED “Life is Like A Boat” is one of few with decent English lyric as well as good pronunciation beat.

After reading some blog posts on this episode, I think there's a misunderstanding about Hajime. She may be eccentric and bubbly, but she's not stupid and brainless in the least. Just look at the last scene. The bus opened its door and she looked inside but didn't enter (her life would have been in danger if she did). Also, she could have jumped into the fight from the start and gotten herself (and Sugune) in trouble. Instead, she took her distance and watched. Thanks to that, she didn't even need to ask how to transform and fight. At the very least, she's got a lot more situational awareness than she lets on.

Comparing this to Tsuritama (because they have a lot of the same crew) Hajime absolutely reminds me of Haru and I hated Haru at first. I found him so annoying but not enough to stop watching the show and by the end I could bare him. For me this is like having Haru as the main character. When she shook her own hand though that was really cute.

I remember watching BotP and G-force growing up so I decided to check this out. had some pretty nice touches such as the cameo of one of the old mook masks on the train and the fact Sugane seems to be a lot more like a ninja then his counterpart Ken. Ironicly it seems give me a bit of a BotP feel with the mascot and base but I have to ask if Hajime is member 101 what happened to all the others if OD is G12 and a noncombatant and the next oldest human member is Jou as G86 the mortality rate on the team may be insane, not sure if that bodes well.

shit, the author was definitely on something when he/she wrote the plot. Looks good nonetheless
The newbie strikes me as the sort who can do anything and her personality makes people underestimates her before she completely pwn their asses

The animation and storytelling were stylish, and Hajime was wonderful. I alternated between thinking Uchida Maaya was sounding terribly awkward and realizing that she was creating a strong character. Great start.
I love the weird eyes. Especially Utsu-tsu's lime-green ones and Sugune's pale ones. Utsu-tsu is played by Koiwai Kotori (Iwai in Crime Edge) and I'm looking forward to hearing more of what she can do. And the little alien mascot-animal boss Paiman is played by...Hirano Aya! Here's the characters/seiyuus page I made. EDIT:

I am sure I am not the only one who notice...
I wish that JJ wear a cloak or something. Why? The Scene where JJ extract her note is rather..... disturbing. Spoiler for NSFW... seriously not for kids:

I really don't know what I think of this one. The anime style I really don't like it's like someone animated it that is a horrible animator. Clothes that do not move at all naturally they are like stuck in there position. The detail is quite lacking again makes me think horrible animation. Now the transformation scenes.. ugg some of the stupidest looking scene and outfits. All severely lacking in detail turns me off.
The original Gatchaman had better animation than this one.. Is this even Gatchaman? It in no way shape or form resembles any sort of Gatchaman. |

My only real complaint is the rice in their hair. Yes, I know it's not actual rice, but man do I find those spots annoying.
To be fair, allegories for sexual intercourse/rape/sexual domination are rampant in anime. That type of thing just goes in the folder labeled "cultural thing" for me, and I don't give it a second thought. :/

I thought it was supposed to be suggestive, although I really don't agree that it was supposed to be a visual metaphor for him having sex with her or something, it was like that just for the hell of it. Getting one's essence extracted in anime/manga usually either hurts a lot or it's vaguely erotic (re: penetration, etc).
Although: It... didn't seem like that to me at all? o_o) Last edited by kuromitsu; 2013-07-14 at 03:05. |

Well that wasn't quite as enjoyable as I'd hope it would be since I don't think I could ever be into shamelessly Super Sentai-like stuff such as this, and the main girl is already starting to really get on my nerves. I hope it puts more focus into expanding its characters than being gimmick-ly eccentric.
