So... what exactly is this about? Monsters attacking, guy wants to kill off all monsters?
In the anime he seems to have that goal, yeah. In the game the MC doesn't talk or has any personality or purpose other than follow the plot.

But that sentence seems to summarize it pretty well, at least from what the first ep showed us, though saying it is all there is to the show after only one episode doesn't make sense.

Finally saw the first episode. Pretty good. The MC is a bit stoic, but he's really a nice guy.

One thing I loved though is that the anime's opening connects to the game's opening video, I thought that was a really nice touch.

Episode 2 was pretty decent. I can't wait to see Alisa in action. The OST is also pretty sweet.

Is it just me or is that a death flag strongly waving over Lindo's head?

The animators also need to cut down on the slo-mo.

I enjoyed episode 2 a lot more than the premier. I like getting to know these characters however the world building is pretty weak.

How many episodes is this supposed to have? 13?

So this is how they're stretching the show to two-cours.

Considering the game was pretty... 'gamey' in terms of how it told the story, I can't say I'm not liking how the anime is taking advantage of the medium better, though it is basically padding out a relatively short story, so it definitely feels slow a bit.

Episode 2 nearly bored me to death.
Not only the slow motions were as numerous (or even more?) as in ep1, but the directing was really bad at times. The fight against the Vajra was so slow it completely lost its sense of urgency. Frankly, I couldn't take seriously Lindow's comment that "things aren't going good" when the Vajra was just a lump of meat barely moving around. The fact he had time to carry Renka on his shoulder as if it was nothing hardly justify his comment.

Renka's reactions aren't helping either as he appears way too dull, even after learning about Eric's death. I don't expect him to go all egdy or gungho whatsoever, but he sounded hollow even when it comes to dialogues regarding saving his comrades in arms.

Finally, barely anything was addressed regarding the chain of commands or whatever is happening around the world. The world building is practically inexistent as far as the anime goes.

I like the style and the characters are pretty hot. Would be better if they didn't cut out so much action, since the drama and story is a bit lacking.

The only beef I have with Renka (at this moment) is his lacking of thinking things/paying attention a bit. Why is this character trait almost found in some (if not most) MCs.

As for his lack of reaction, that's probably something that might/might not be touch upon (he's probably not the only character of any series who'll reacted like that).

To me in that instance, Renka gave off the vibe of someone who was simply numb to death and tragedy. He is someone who survived the outside after all. As for the story, I do agree it is pretty dull.

Eh, whatever. This show may be dull as hell but as long as I get my weekly dose of you-know-who then it's all good. And at least it's nice to look at.

I suspected as much, but alas, the lack of backstory for Renka isn't going to his favor whatsoever. To make things worse, it is a bit difficult to relate with him considering his behaviour and speech are a bit on the antipodes.

I mean, for someone who is number when it comes to death and tragedy, his words are definitely coming from someone who doesn't want anyone to die, even if it means he would die in the process. And his behaviour is not really following such pattern.

Of course, I don't expect him to be a carbon copy of your usual shounen protag who strives for everyone's safety, but his "hollow shell" behaviour doesn't mesh well as far as it goes.
For instance, I wouldn't be surprised if he was a "mercenary/soldier type" who seeks his worth or raison d'ętre on the battlefield, but that's arguably not the case here.

Much smoother progression than the intro episode which was a bit on the slow side, also OST was more noticeable this time around. Liking the story changes so far like how they handled Eric's death compared to the game.

Vajra fight was a bit short but still managed to be nice-looking while keeping details like using flash granades and such. Ufotable definitely knows what they are doing with the IP.

Episode 2:

They should really work on the characterization part a bit for this series. Right now, I'm not interested in almost any of the characters except for that new girl Alisha introduced in this episode. Hopefully we'll learn more about her..but judging by some of the things she said, it seems that she is quite confident about her abilities?

Hmm...and the action felt meh this week as well.

RIP Eric. Unfortunately, I don't feel much for the character.

The bad way. The lighting is good but the characters look absolutely awful in the areas where there is little/no lighting.

Bothered me that the Vajra was standing still. Like, doing nothing, when in the game that shit jumps everywhere. As a monster was really boring somehow.

I do really hope the show pick ups the pace, its moving way too slow.
