I take it to mean that either an all-female or all-male cast is the best solution, then.

An "all female" is just "one world"... add males and you got both worlds...

Not really. Variety is never boring.

No, clearly the best solution is all-futa.

Hmm... just what is the solution, then? Whatever we do here, we're screwed.

Harem cause you get the best of both worlds... coz though all of them (girls) loves the male MC, there are still chances that one will swing and get with both at the same time...nya

But given that a lot of harem MCs get a lot of flak for not being a so-called alpha male...

Here's an idea, make a series with multiple harem protagonists or threesome pairings, Hell throw in a yuri-bait one just for fun... But make them all short hair and boyish... Just to be realistic...

Then that's the down side of many Harems... that's why I prefer an anime that starts in a harem then goes to the main one female route. I'm also satisfied knowing that my favorite female is still on the top of the harem and is the MCs preference.

Basically, a polygamous male MC, a shy straight childhood female and a tomboyish bestfriend of the girl who prefers both?

That's one of the things I thought of when I said mixed gender ensemble casts. Three to five protags, all differents yet all of them being friends, you can even throw a trap or a reverse trap in the group.

As long as the males slaughter each other Highlander style to be the only alpha of the show, sure.

In fact.

I'd watch the crap out of that show.

I've pitched the idea of a Harem Protagonist School before... Selection course has a 30% success rate, and at the end of the it graduates earn the SAS badge- because who dares, wins.

Naturally this would be beside the mahou shoujo school as well as the Maid Combat camp..

See, here's the thing. Different people have different favorites among a certain harem. There are people who just feel sad when the MC doesn't pick their favorite female, and there are people who HULK OUT when the MC doesn't pick their favorite female. So it's not going to work for some people...

What I meant by "not alpha male", well, you know, the "uninteresting male lead who is an extreme doormat and is completely dense about the girls' feelings about him, and yet the girls are still into his shit-tier dick" kind of thing some people always rant about...

So that brings the question of how savvy should the main male lead be in terms of romance. It's just so sad when people expect the main lead to become pro at romance despite being a complete beginner. Being good with girls is not something you can master in 24 hours! In some cases, it's a gift or talent rather than something you can improve with training.

That said, I didn't like the "alpha male archetype" some Western people apparently crave for anyway, because they tend to be assholes who view women as sex machines. For me, a good harem hero should still value his harem members as much as anything else and thus treat each one of them kindly, and at the same time he should be able to stand up for himself when his harem members go overboard with their antics (such as the tsundere's "hyperactivity" and man-hating attitude or the master manipulator who takes advantage of his kindness).

There should be all kinds of harem sets in one show. The generic one, the violent one, the all-imouto one, all trap one, yuri one....

And then suggest this idea to Ryogo Narita, and tell her to have fun.

All-imouto one... I thought it was already done with shows like Ro-Kyu-Bu! (which is on its second season, by the way). Season 1 was pretty messy.

A harem anime where the "male" lead is actually a girl playing a guy for some reason. This "guy" (who's a tomboy that falls somewhere between Sayaka Miki and Amane from Strawberry Panic) attracts the love and attention of many girls. The girl playing a guy reveals her true identity to her many suitors until she finds the one that is cool with being in a girl-girl relationship, leading to your happy and conclusive yuri ending.

The ultimate fusion of harem and all-girls.

^^ I believe it has been done before, but I'm not sure. I'm guessing Maria Holic.

^ What he meant is that the show seems like a harem with a male MC at first, but the MC is later revealed to be female.
