They added Tou-kun into several unrelated chapters as well, you know. Such as the Butamen chapter and Yatta!Men chapter. So it's not just Saya. The four characters do play off each other well even when they weren't in the original chapter, so I'm personally fine with the adaptation so far. It probably helps that I like Saya and Tou-kun a lot. The narrative they try to establish in each episode works sometimes, but other times it doesn't. Iirc the festival arc is the first long arc the series had, which made this episode flow better. However I wish they chose to cut out OP or ED in favor of animating Ch56, as that was also really important I feel to the overall narrative. That was the dampening effect for me on this episode. However, I think they might add it into a later episode. If they adapt the summer school arc, Hotaru might say it there instead. That's my thought. I don't categorize Dagashikashi as a harem show, but if it was just shoving moe they could choose to add more screentime to Saya without adding Tou-kun's screentime. (e.g. The part with Tou-kun saying he wanted to give something back in this episode is anime original.) I think they want to give all the characters more balanced screentime. Heck, Ep. 4 and 5 barely have Saya in it as it is. ...And 'second heroine'? Don't say that! As an osananajimi shipper, how can you give up hope here?! I ship Kokonotsu/Saya so we should be on the same team here, and with the manga still ongoing there's no conclusion yet!!

I agree with bastek66.
I don't mind all the extras that Saya gets, that's not the issue. The issue is she is getting extra at the cost of removing Hotaru's character (yes character, not content). Festival arc is the ONLY "long" story in Dagashikashi (besides the recent one where they're trying to come up with a new product). Cutting out 56 leaves a very bad after taste for actual plot reasons. I am never the guy that goes, "hurrr manga's better, fuck anime for not doing blah blah blah." I very much enjoyed the previous 6 episodes. People in the thread always complain Hotaru's just a plot device to introduce candies and she is literally eye candy herself, but she has subliminal and great characterization. 56 is one of those very important chapter that situates her in actual serious mode, even the side tagline enforces this idea within the chapter. When people are goofballs all the time, the moment they actually shift their countenance and demeanor is significant. Either way, I still think chapter 56 will come back in another form later on in the series (definitely not the next episode given the title and the preview pictures). Maybe they consider it too important to dump it here instead of the final episode or something (but the contrast with Saya is lost forever). I enjoyed the adaptation so far, I am frustrated by the turn of event, but still very much looking forward to future episodes. If this goes downhill from here on, at least Ajin's moving past the movie and I can devote my time weekly to that instead |

Yeah, Tamai-chan was a shock. I thought the son would be a chick magnet but damn, it's in the genes!!!
Very adorable episode though, flashbacks to Kokonatsu and Saya being children is always daworthy. Saya-shi was so cute with how happy she was spending time just with her crush. <3

Festival episode.
Hotaru actually won something? Amazing! Man, the director must be a hardcore Sayia fan, they are really mangling the adaptation to give her more focus and screentime. At this point they might have run out of chapters where she shows up. I hope they at least go back to the chapters they skipped over, because those were some of the best ones. |

Episode 7
So it's the summer festival and this is Hotaru's first one. Liked Hotaru's hairstyle there. Poor Coconuts had to work the stall and Saya came to his rescue. You-san saw what Saya was getting at and set Coconuts free. Tou started helping out and unleashed his hidden powers lol. Saya and Coconuts spent quite a lot of quality time together. And no one came to interrupt them – Hotaru was nowhere to be found and Tou was unleashing his hidden skills. Lol that old guy and the boys' dirty minds. |

They could've, would've, might've done many things different or will do things differently, but those all conditionals that have yet to happen, which means they might not happen at all. The only hard fact of the matter is the director showed bias by blatantly axing something just pander to people like you. I do not get why this is even debatable. |

well for me I don't mind they adding "original" or anime only episodes like making a full episode for saya, what i have problem is then skipping a lot of material or changing many chapters to make her or others characters appear just for fanservice while in some cases this can work in others cain not work and make the episode not so good as was in the manga.
To be fair i could be more fine if the director did the same as kyoto with phantom and made clear which the anime will be full "original anime only" because is much better and make more sense when you are going full original than keep doing a lot of changes/cut in order to pander a part of fanbase and pulling things which are supposed to be the "least" thing to be focused as primary or secondary, for exemple the ship and romance aspect if i had not read the manga before i could start to believe which this history have more romance that what was supposed to be since they are trying to focus on that part much more than it was supposed to be. Well while the anime still fun, he really is failling to bring the same fun as the manga with all that changes i will keep watching because i still liking this serie and is one of my favorite comedy mangas but all the changes are hitting me really bad because i was expectating a really crazy and fun anime not a one trying to pander some fans. Really this anime could be much better being a 7 to 12 minutes one than 24.

Fair enough point. We can only hope then. Anyways, I really just wanna enjoy this anime and want other people to enjoy the anime too, so this will be my last post on this matter. Sorry, Random Wanderer, and other anime-only viewers.

So, if source readers really, really need to vent, may I request that they do so in the more relevant manga threads. As for the latest episode, I'd say that Saya's involvement is what makes the anime enjoyable for me. I'm not by any means hostile against Hotaru, and neither would I mind if she gets more air time later. But that's in the future. For now, though, I simply enjoy what I get. |
