None of class 78 was brainwashed either. The murders they committed were of their own free will.

Komaeda: Good! My sweet little apprentice! You are mastering the art of bullshit!

Junko: He's not quite the level of Komaeda bullshit...

Komaeda:That's right, if Naegi was level 10, I am like level 800........million.

Forgot to say this.

Fuck Izuru.

He never was hope.
Talent without goodwill is as good as not having any which he did. His (in)actions helped Junko more than Mitarai's video ever did.

I think that was kind of the point and why the Kamukura project was so bogus.

Well to me, there are THREE different kinds of Ultimate Hope.

1. Naegi's hope, we will never succumb to despair, we will accept it and overcome it.
2. Talent wise Izuru- having all the talents in the world.
3. Nagito's later hope/MUnakata, KILLING/ELIMINATING all despair, despair free world.

Naegi's Hope was based on mutual trust, that brought determination against adversity making others believe again.

Izuru wasn't hope but talent and talent on itself is useless when he is just a bystander, making him a silent accomplice of the events. A monster with human flesh.
Kamakura Project shows it's a failure, sheer talent is no hope at all.

Nagito's Hope was twisted as much as Munakata's.
Both forgot that Hope meant to bet/rely/trust on others that were affected by despair and instead sought for their own goals and self satisfaction.

They saw objects while Naegi saw people. That's why they failed and he triumphed.

I wouldn't lump Munakata and Komaeda together. One things hope is ELIMINATING DESPAIRRRRRR! And the one says that the deepest despair gives rise to the greatest hope.

Nagito used other people as objects, or in his words stepping stones.

Keep in mind Munakata's obssession towards exterminating all sign of Despair in the world came from Chisa manipulating and pushing him to do it. Her ultimate goal was to turn him into the same as her.

To say she would have succeeded, had not been for Naegi... Munakata was pretty close of reaching the point of no return. In the end he became a better person, having come to terms with himself and treasuring the memories of his loved ones.

That doesn't make them the same. They are inherently different.

My point is both are twisted and deem people more as means to an end as objects.

Circumstances or not, that's what they are even if it means killing hope for greater hope. That's what they ultimately did.

Personally, I just think that's way too simple reasoning, which doesn't really do justice to al the nuances involved.

How are they not the same? Nagito tried to kill the main cast for Hope in DR2, Munakata killing off remaining FF for the sake of Hope.

Nagito's wanted to be a hero even if it killed him. It was his ego above everyone/everything.

Munakata's was twisted into trampling over everything for the sake of hope, how personal hope.

Both were selfish and failed.

I don't know, you tell me how "RAAAAAAAGH! MUST ELIMUNATE ALL DESPAIRRRRR!" and "I want to see the greatest hope shine brightly!" are even remotely the same. How is extreme rage even remotely similar to unusual optimism?

Um, I can say that Nagito was like, "RAAAAAAAGH! MUST ELIMUNATE ALL DESPAIRRRRR FOR HOPE." in chapter 5.

I never got that impression. I'm not sure what it was that gave you that impression either.
