I've been stuck on writing human interactions. I feel my writing became... too mechanical?

Also, having to take 3 subjects for summer classes really puts a wrench in vacation plans

what would be a good name for a group of soldiers hellbent on taking down all sides of a power struggle? "Chaos corps" would be too corny.

Not really a big chance of this ending. We tend to talk about thing s even when they're not that tight knit to IS, so I doubt it.

Anyway, a load of new fics recently.

Well, I decided to do a reconstruction of Lukasz's character. Apparently, trying to make a mass murdering Psychopath look sympathetic is not only hard, but very disturbing for me to write.

So, here's a snippet I wrote. No IS verse characters or IS units, just a small snippet to describe how I reconstructed Lukasz's character and downplayed his murdering tendencies.

More sympathetic, but it doesn't exactly erase past actions.

Well, yes, it doesn't erase the past actions. But he IS a villain after all. If I don't make him kill an innocent at some point of his life, I feel like I'm forcing him to be sympathetic. Just because you have made mistakes that cannot be fixed does not mean you cannot try to atone for them. Killing someone before does not exempt you from the effort of saving more lives.

Actually, that quote you used is brilliant. I could have someone say it to Lukasz. His response would probably be:
"That is the point. I know I cannot fix my mistakes. The least I can do now is to avoid making them."

Sounds... too... forced? I'll rethink his reply.

RIght now I'm just trying to get the next chapter of Future Imperfect out. The kid's are way too mature for their age.
From an 8 year old.

"A time machine makes no logical sense. If something like that was made, our current state makes no sense. Thesis and Anti-synthesis, ever action has an equal and negative reaction. Why the screw up? Shouldn't the creation of something like that automatically cause a ripple in time?

Spoiler for Insurgency: The Nature of Self Awareness: An orphan with the age of five sits on Lukasz’s lap. Lukasz, the psychopathic murderer who knows no guilt or remorse. Lukasz knew, even with his crippled form, it would not take any effort for him to strangle the child and hide his body. With the resources he has in his disposal, it would be very easy, in fact. But he didn’t. Not yet, even when he sincerely wants to kill him. “Why should I kill this child?” Lukasz thought. He thought with confusion, like any other human being on the planet would, if they thought of killing a five year old orphan. Lukasz noticed the tone of his thoughts. It was incongruent with his nature. He knew that wasn’t how he was supposed to phrase the question. But he automatically did, as if he were speaking to a normal person. He reflexively used his mask of deception, even when he did not need to deceive anyone. No one could read his thoughts after all. This reflex to think normal, to attempt to deceive himself, is his nature too. But he couldn't deceive himself that easily. Psychopaths tend to be very self-aware, after all. “I am still using the mask of deception I usually wear,” Lukasz thought, saying those words in his mind to confirm what he already knows, “I should not do so. That is not the point of this exercise.” Lukasz asked himself the same question… well, sort off. “Now, why should I not kill this child?” Lukasz again, thought. His high level of self awareness kicked in. Immediately, he opened up his mental model of human beings and found hundreds of reason why he should not kill him. This was, just like his token effort at self-deception, his nature. Reflex. Instinct. The child is innocent. What has he done to wrong him? Killing others is immoral. The child doesn’t deserve to die. The child is a creation of God. Every living human being is valuable. The child is loved, and taking him away is evil. None of those, not a single one, applies to him. He doesn’t care about any of those reasons. It’s not haywired in his brain to immediately accept any single one of those reasons as valid. He just can’t justify letting this child live using those reasons. Meanwhile, killing the child will bring him pleasure. Temporary, transient, ultimately useless pleasure, but pleasure nonetheless. It’s better than nothing. He would feel no remorse killing the child either. Lukasz took a deep breath and sighed. He knows, that if he could not justify not killing this child, he would immediately do so without hesitation. He racked his brain. No justification arose. He felt his impulse to kill the child screaming. It would be his nature to kill the innocent child. It’s not like he’s going to feel remorse, anyway. … Lukasz moved his right hand around the neck of the orphan, and moved his left to hold the child while he struggles. And promptly hugged the child and patted his head. … “I want to feel remorse.” “I want to feel guilt.” “I want to feel happiness.” “I want to be human.” Lukasz halted his thoughts. What does he want, exactly? Lukasz knows, that even among psychopaths, he is different. He is not only highly self-aware. He knows… no, he had decided…. what to do with his self-awareness. Just being self-aware is not enough. Just knowing your nature is not enough. There is no point in admitting your flaws if you are not going to do something about it. Admitting your flaws and leaving it at that is not humility. It’s taking pride in your weaknesses. To know your faults and not do anything about them is not to acknowledge those faults, it is to ignore them. You will never be faultless. There is no such thing as perfection, after all. But just because you can’t get to level infinity does not mean you cannot continue to improve in that direction. There is no point in being self aware, in knowing the reasons of your actions, in knowing the incompleteness in yourself, in knowing your flaws and faults, if you’re not going to do something about them. There is no point in being aware of your nature if you are not going to at least try to improve it. “I want to rebel against my nature.” “My nature is to kill this child.” “I want to change. I don’t want to just be my nature. I want to be more than it.” “I want to be human.” Lukasz finally came to a conclusion. “Therefore, screw my nature.” Lukasz knew that his line of reasoning is not the most rational… “It is also my nature to think highly rationally.” “Therefore, screw that too.” Lukasz did a mental chuckle… or whatever it is the psychopathic equivalent of one. He motioned his hand towards the small refrigerator box built into his wheelchair and took out a bottle of soda. He gave the soda to the child still on his lap. This act of kindness gave him no joy. No happiness. Nothing. It’s simply not his nature to feel happy when seeing others happy. It’s simply not his nature to empathize.
