Ep 10
I agree. An excellent ep. And if the onsen scene in the manga is supposed to be even better I am curious to check it out even more so now. Well, patience and all that. Interesting thing about Hana and her...mother, I assume. How sad to hear she is from a divorced family and that she was unable to be around her mother much because of the latter's work schedule...hmm...yes indeed, that sheds quite a bit of light on Hana. Must admit that I also liked the interaction between Hana and her father. Great stuff - it really brought a smile to my face. ^^ Speaking of bringing a smile to my face, I also liked Machi's interactions with the other club members and her older sister's quiet perceptiveness and background support. She is pretty talented - picks up stuff quickly. But nonetheless she was defeated by Naru's infamous generous hearted bubbling over super moe attack! Naru..wins! Fatality!

A very engaging episode. I like the feeling of unease that goes with Machi as she grope into the world of Yosakoi , unknown territory for her indeed. She's trying to keep up with team at same time hoping to have fun with. Naru confirms again that she's the heart of team as she's able to come up with the symbol for each members that really captures their personality, something that really resonates well to Machi when she got hers.
I was sort of expecting that it'll go with a Hana focused drama, since she's the only one left that the series haven't delve into yet. Sort of fitting as she's the one who started the whole thing, it will be hers that'll be dealt near the finale. |

Even Naru's embarrassing speeches are mostly rewording of Hana's ideas and outlook on life.

To me Hana is the driving force of the team. The dynamo that moves them. If you mean the center of the club, then yes, Hana is the heart of the team, but to me Naru is the center of emotion and feeling of the team, going beyond the expected dynamic of a dance club. She's able to empathize and delve into something more personal and meaningful to each member. The heart of the matter. I guess that's why she compliments Hana's character really well. Like Ray Stantz to Peter Venkman.

How Hana's dad divorced that beautiful Jersey girl is beyond me. But that was a mad cute episode. I really liked Machi's effort and the last scene where they were practicing outside with all the visitors watching them. And when she said that doing that yosakoi was fun and when everyone got red...too cute. I'm not looking forward to the tactical tears inbound thoooo. #dancefloorisyours

Oh God, Hana is adorable as a kid ^_^
Anyways, I hope she will be back by the finale. She has to see that festival performance, she just has to!

Ep 11
Yet another excellent ep ... it had drama, yes, but it was not "over-wrought" to me and was pulled off convincingly. I love the balanced touch the series has with serious matters. So the OP is actually the five girls singing in the anime proper with the lyrics written by the characters as well - and they will actually sing it as they perform to add to the overall effect and keep the timing too! A nice touch, and adds to the effectiveness of the OP even more for me. It did not occur to me that Hana's VA was the one singing the first verses! Makes all kind of sense, actually. Anyone else catch the look on Hana's father's face when they were at the airport? As Hana's mom was speaking with her about treating her to something in the airport there was a split second where the father looked like he noticed something else was going through Hana's mind that she was not expressing. Seems Hana held to that pattern of bottling things up towards everyone she loves, whether friends or family.... From the preview for next ep (assuming it is not a flashback memory or a troll maneuver) it looks like Hana will return to Japan, perhaps to finish out the school term and then return to the States with her father, who also mentioned he would head off to the US when school semester was done if I remember correctly. If so she should be able to dance with everyone. Very much looking forward to the "finale" when the dance and singing is performed in it's entirety! Hmm ... I wonder if they will do the full version of the OP? Oh and by the by, Sally-sensei owes "sea-monk" all sorts of favors by now, btw - she better not be stringing him along!

RIP Hana.
Been a while since I seen the airport scene in anime. I guess the drama served its purpose, but felt it was the most 'forced' out of the dramas so far. I mean, the most obvious solution is to just let Hana finish the summer break, and go back with her father when its over. They even mentioned it at the end of the episode And what rush was Hana's mom in that she had to bring her back right away. I guess Hana could have spoken up more too. She was happy they could be a family again, so maybe she was afraid of ruining a good thing while it was happening. I liked the gradual building up of the group writing and learning the OP song throughout the entire season.

As for Hana, I agree about her possibly being afraid of "getting in the way" of a good thing, though. Hana loves both her new friends and her family, but her family was kinda in a semi iffy state, and she loved both her parents. Divorce is painful for children, of course, and I can imagine the uneasiness Hana might have felt with the outside possibility of divorce "looming over her head". (At least I assume the parents were separated for work related reasons and had not actually gotten to the state of a full blown divorce.) To me her choice made "sense", but also the pain and conflicted inner feelings she was going through for much of the ep until she was finally able to unburden herself on Naru.

Another satisfying episode once again. The drama is well played, it gives such significance that Hana is a foreigner and that will eventually go back home, it's just that the girls aren't expecting it to be too soon. Let's see how they'll make it in the next episode.

Ep.11
Good ep. with a lot of the FEELS. I actually thought Hana would change her mind and stay (like in many other shows) but Hanayamata surprised me by making her leave for real. (and return later to attend Hanairo Festival, I hope) Next week is the final ep. I hope they will show us a full dance.

Liked the episode, but Hana's reluctance to tell her parents about what she had planned frustrated me to no end. The whole show was about how you shouldn't sacrifice your own happiness for that of others, as that makes no one really happy, even if you think it would, so how didn't Hana learn that already?
Her father could tell something was up, so he could've told his wife to wait and ask Hana to tell what was bugging her. Given that he still remains in Japan for a bit, she could have stayed with him till he too would leave. I see no reason why she had to go with her mother first, especially when the latter didn't really seemed to have forced her daughter to come with her, something I've seen quite often in anime. Oh well, Hana will be back. You don't have to watch the preview for it to know that. Nice touch on using the OP for the festival dance. I liked how they showed the process in how it came to be in-universe.
