Since episode 34, Nadja has been going through a mean luck streak. At one of my earlier posts, I described that Nadja was as naive as her mother is, but that was before RoseMary's betrayal.

In the current phase of episodes, Nadja whether she likes it or not is earning lots of hard and cold experience from the world.

I mean, when Nadja returned to the Applefield Orphanage at episode 42 she found out much to her shock that the caring Principal had been dead for a short while ago, and she was never notified about it.

Back at the first episode, I recalled how the Principal used to be energetic.

The Principal presented the first supporting beam of evidence to testify for Nadja's identity to the Preminger Ducal and clearing her name, but the nice-lady passed out.

However, thanks to Raphael who happened to found shelter at the remains of the orphanage that inspired Nadja to open a new path for herself and that was to trace back the whereabouts of the person who sent her the parcel containing her mother's dress and diary back in the first episode.

So far, episode 43 proved to be my favorites amongst all episodes watched so far at that point, because Nadja was able to meet at last her true father at least in a picture and through her dreams. It was a needed for the story to tie that knot, because although the whole plot resolves on Nadja's quest to be reunited with her mother, it also shed light on both her parents and Nadja found out her father wrote the melody in the loving memory of the daughter he was unable to meet.

For episode 44, Keith and Francis confrontation and ensuing fight was splendidly performed. Both are opposites building their points of views, but their goals are the same to: help Nadja and to be rightfully chosen by Nadja as her true love.
I do not hate Francis, and throughout the course of the story his character has never been annoying at all. It just that I'm more inclined for Nadja to have chosen Keith instead due that the two of them share more affinity than one can imagine because Nadja is naive and too-trusting, while Keith is reckless and more self-awared.
However, even though Nadja at that moment felt secure to have made the right choice from her heart at choosing Francis instead, the animators made a wise choice to build suspense for the momentum keeping the viewer at a cliffhanger before revealing who was the person Nadja chose.

Episode 45 is the last one I've watched recently for the moment. Mary-Ann's, unlike Rosemary from my P.O.V., is neither unbalanced nor inherently evil. She truly loves Francis, and, unlike Nadja, she's grown-up enough at compartmentalizing her feelings shut without exposing herself. However, in the inside she's both scared and frail, because Mary-Ann has only met and made room for Francis throughout all of her life.
It's understandable that she's getting in Nadja's way with Francis, because she doesn't want to lose him. Mary-Ann, at least, confessed straightforwardly to Nadja that she won't lose to the latter with no hidden tricks.

And now there's the issue that Nadja confused her feelings for Francis to those that she shared with Keith. Maybe Nadja made her choice too hastily, since after all Keith went to great lengths and made himself got hurt to retrieve Nadja's brooch, as well as telling her to be careful about Herrman.

When real-life obligations have passed. I was fortunate to have a vacation so that I could put out all those episodes as quickly as I did. However, I have a lot of responsibilities right now and those come before any sort of subtitling.

Throughout the course of this week I managed to download the last three episodes, and until today I've seen up to the forty-eighth episode.

And let me tell you that the cliffhangers are getting better and better, that I'm feeling anxious to watch the remainder episodes all in one go, but I have to tell myself to remain patient and calm, since a meal tastes the best when you take your time at eating and tasting every flavor thoroughly.

Spoiler for Episode 46:

My heart raced, soared, and sank witnessing the battle between the two Nadja, who was the imposter and who was the real one.

Nadja had her verifiable statements, but Rosemary won through with her deceptive acting and manipulative emotions.

At the end, Nadja had no choice but to relinquish her heart brooch; Hermann, not knowing anything about the Harcourt twins, called the police on Francis for being the "Black Rose" and got arrested since Francis covered for Keith for Nadja's sake;
Nadja got arrested as well; and at the end Rosemary laugh psychotically in pure Machiavellan fashion.

Spoiler for Episode 47:

Showing benevolence Rosemary-Nadja pleaded to Count Preminger to have fake (real) Nadja released.

Fortune smiled upon Nadja once he reunited with Harvey, who found out about Black Rose due to the widespread rumors becoming public.

Nadja and Collete almost crossed paths, but destiny still harbors some cruel surprises for Nadja.

Keith breaks-in to the prison to have Francis set free, but this was actually a settlement between twin brothers to deal with their opposing issues.

Keith gained a lot more of Enlightment due to the truth Francis told him about their mother; and for Nadja's sake, both started to move.

Spoiler for Episode 48:

In this episode, Hermann behaved at his most vermin, despicable self. Coercing and striking his wife, so how deplorable can he get to be!

Thankfully, Oscar arrived in time to put Herman in his place, and later he was willing to pay Herman's debt under the conditions for Hermann to leave the Colrad household forever and never to see Oscar's mother again.

It is obvious that Hermann marriage to Oscar's mother was due either 1) him being manipulative, or 2) because traditions amongst noble houses and birth rights that dictate or stipulate that nobles can only marry within themselves.

I loved how Collete confronted her father the Duke Preminger and slapped on him with downright truths that for her noble titles, the ownership of the Dukedom, and nobility status are worth nothing but a mustard seed to her, paling in comparison for her love toward her daughter; Collete became restless ever since she found out about the other Nadja (whom she previously met and didn't know at that time that was her real child), and her Father refused to tell her; I'm more glad that Collete wasn't swayed by Rosemary-Nadjas' lies in the previous episode.

Black Rose' last, grand theft, announcing to all the commoners who have given him their undying support, that a girl (Nadja) he met has endured a plenty bounty of sorrows and hardships, but that never has strayed her off from her path to reap her happiness.
Black Rose announces that the era of aristocracy has ended, and the new era of meritocracy, not ruled by birth rights but by one's own free will to work hard and strive to be acknowledged by ones' acquired merits, has begun.

This announcement promptly makes Francis clear of all charges, since he did not left prison.

All of Nadja's friends whom she had met over the course of her journey from her orphanage friends to the Dandelion Troupe are gathering for Vienna.

The voyage that I started when I first picked-up this show almost three years ago has finally ended.

From my last post up today, I concluded Nadja.

The conclusion and all-happiness she chose of her own will she deserved them all, because she earned them along her quest.

I was impressed at how the last episode broke off all my expectations I had for it.

Spoiler:

Herman's antagonism and Rosemary's deceit got resolved in the previous episode before the last one.

Nadja was prudent and not forgiving right away Rosemary for what she did to her. She saw her former friend depart with a cautious and surely face, and not with her smile.

Rosso and Bianco helped Nadja but that did not grant them in anyway leniency to avoid getting thrown into jail.

What I fondly respect and like Nadja for is that the people and settings of her world are portrayed as much realistically as possible. There is good and there is bad intertwined just like in real life everywhere.

Spoiler:

I felt broken and frustrated at how Rosemary betrayed Nadja, ripped her dress to pieces, attempted to stole her brooch, and among many countless bad deeds.

Infuriated and disgusted at how Rosso and Bianco deceive Nadja to gain her blind trust, so as to backstab her with her guard down to steal her brooch.

Herman was too downtrodden and drunk in greed for him to deserve any hope for redemption or pity; he reaped what he sowed, regardless how stiff and hard his upbringing was in his childhood.

The interesting conclusion for those characters as with few or many other bad people out there is that they stay cruel and manipulative and were not swayed by Nadja to change their ways.

Rosemary's fate was left ambiguous and for the viewer to make his or her mind. She brought to Nadja a real-life point that people had to be cunning, even if that means to resort to underhanded tactics to get what they want.

She hated Nadja for being too sweet and naive, since the real world doesn't work that way. Rosso also pointed out how he was disgusted by Nadja's overly goodness and enthusiastic approach towards hardship, although Bianco admitted that Nadja's kindness touched him to some extent.

I applaud the writers for not redeeming or changing the antagonists into good-natured and kind people due to Nadja influencing them.

I also applaud the writers for not letting Nadja forgiving Rosemary, or at least not forgiving her for the time being. That act alone denotes that Nadja grew seed of prudence, although it hurt her at remaining antagonistic to the person she once thought as her best friend.

It was through the antagonists and the hardships along the way, that made Nadja stronger to push through the road when she found her path blocked with despair and sorrow.

Spoiler:

But, definitely, it has to be all the friends and people she befriended in her quest that shaped her world and gave her meaning to stand her ground and keep walking forward towards the uncertain tomorrow.

Ashita no Nadja, the show per se, is not a magical-girl show as TOEI unsuccessfully attempted to billed it as such in an effort to make an overwhelming, merchandising profit.

It's true they are magical elements introduced but those are seen through Nadja as she was experiencing new things during her voyage, and how many people saw through her.

For example, take Rafael who in episode 42 when he comforted Nadja that her light was burning lit, and through his eyes and imagination saw her fit as a beautiful angel.

But, how couldn't I imagined that the antagonist for the last episode that Nadja faced-off wasn't her grandfather or any other character.

Spoiler:

Rather, it was the stubborness and foolishness of human societies at attempting to impose themselves to exert control over the individuals.

The show made it clear that Nadja only cared about finding and reuniting with her Mother. Nobility mind nothing but a mustard seed to Nadja.

Believe me, that I was outraged and disgusted with that uptight, stiff "Grandfather" of hers attempting by any means, even using force, to decide her fate.

Nadja became the product of the environment where she grew and was raised; the product of all the people she became in contact with; and the product of all good and bad experience she went through.

At the end, Nadja once again stood her ground and chose to walk her path on a new voyage, returning once again to her dear Dandelion Troupe family that she missed so much. , discarding the Dukedom and any shackless that would restrain her from keeping walking forward.

Spoiler:

I felt a little bit down that Nadja, after all, did not sort her heart to choose between Keith or Francis, though the narrator (old-hag, Anna Petrova) points out that this was one out of many stories in Nadja's life. So, its wishful thinking from my part dreaming that a second series will ever manifest one day.

In conclusion, this show is a must for me to rewatch for a later season. I give sincere thanks to AnimeCo, A.C.A., and Project Kitteh for having anything possible to bring this show fansubbed from beginning to end.

OMG so I'm up to episode 42 now (took me awhile to get all Project Kitteh's additions and then I procrastinated since it had been long since I had gone up to 39...)...

SO SAD. Out of nowhere, jebus.

Anyway, um, there is this song playing in the background with lyrics (I know 'tsubasa' aka wings was one word...) playing when Nadja remembers from 14:30-15:30ish (actually longer but this is around where you hear it.

PK didn't translate the song lyrics so I'm wondering if anyone knew the song, who sang it, or possibly the lyrics? I thought it would be cool if some day we could get a patch so people could Karaoke along with it or something.

Oh hey made a wikia for this show http://nadja.wikia.com so if anyone wants to take screenshots and type up information about characters (especially those minor obscure ones they meet travelling the world) I think that'd be really cool. A very complex universe deserving of detailing some day.

The answer comes probably pretty late, but as for the song, it should be sung from the voice actor of Rapahael, Kouji Yamamoto. I think the song is compiled in the vocal album "Ashita no Nadja: The Song Around the World". The brooklet of that probably contains the japanese lyrics as well.

As for the translation of the song, I tried translating the lines, but I rather failed to make the text out of the overlaying dialogue. (I suck at figuring out text from songs anyhow.)

i did this AGES ago cos loved the song so much,lol, i would've posted it into animelyrics.com but they have it so you have to translate something, which i cant do, i got this from watching the anime, Absolutely Adore the song i've got who sings what separated, and have the english translated underneath the romaji, Syvlie sings just as Raphael finishes a line so have her singing next to his english translation, and its staggered that way throughout hope it helps anyone interested, and any questions about it just ask Enjoy!
