Well, I guess they had a special live stream event for episode 1 and people are pretty much crapping on it. I haven't read the manga but apparently they recapped a story arc (Island Raid arc?) that wasn't animated in the first place in like a minute. The episode fails to explain that it's been 6 months since the end of last season and they changed a plot point again. So they're cramming a lot of information into short periods of time again...

Favorite criticism I've heard so far

"Tell me Studio Pierrot. Why do you butcher this series and why do you rush it? Meanwhile, you have 50 FUCKING BLACK CLOVER EPISODES!"

Not surprising that the first episode is being crapped on. They are essentially trying to cram 120 chapters into 12 episodes.

Episode counts aren't generally determined by the studio though, they're determined by the publisher. And, the studio generally works from there.

I know beforehand that :re second cour is just a few days away from starting broadcast, however, I want to follow it on my pace watching the episodes since still stuck with the first cour; I'm just two episodes away to finish the first season.

Now, for the season one's tenth episode, I wouldn't say they rushed through, however, I felt the staff we're attempting to get done and dealt with the previous subplots in order to make room for the Tsukiyama Extermination arc. Unfortunately, going with that course of action substracted valuable, juicy details on Kanaes' restrained passion for Tsukiyama.

The show is back after the break!

We got reintroduction of some very noticable characters like Arima and even Rize. The episode didn't waste much time on showcasing Arima and his abilities too. Still very badass as ever. Oh and can't forget Ayato either. He didn't waste time making his presence. I actually like the new OP song more than the previous one.

Granted Pierrot's way of handling Ghoul's story for anime has many problems, but manga readers have also noted the source story was also declining in quality towards the end.

Ishida Sui's afterwords from the final manga volume basically revealed he was tired and burnt out from working nonstop on Ghoul for 7 years straight.

His backstory as elaborated in part 3 of the afterword seem to hint at depression and personal demons of family/social pressure driving his decision to not go on hiatus for a rest, fearing he'd abandon Ghoul forever if he took a break.

I find the afterwords make for compelling reading, especially since Ishida was willing to lay his innermost thoughts and history bare for his readers and fans to know.

Yeah, they serve as an effective reminder that drawing and weekly chapters can be hell.

writE: The Absent One

Just one episode more to be done with the first cour, and then moving on with season two.

I can feel from this particular episode that the staff took several, subtle creative liberties from the source material while adapting Kanae and Tsukiyama's scenes.

Honestly, in the manga Kanae felt uninteresting to me and lacked punch, but the anime adaptation focusing mostly on her memories and her unrequited love for Tsukiyama, a great deal in this episode, made me to both warm up and caring sympathetically for her.

As for Tsukiyama, this became the moment for him to shine and growing-up into a true man genuinely caring for his family and friends, and achieving to feel anguish, pain, and regret on the fear about losing them all and, still, having no choice but to survive and living on.

Finally watched the first episode and they really butchered this hard. Good luck to anime only watchers to understand what the hell is going on. The Eto change actually isn't a bad one, in the manga it made no sense for Kaneki to let her hold a press conference after he had already arrested her. It removes their "bonding" moments in the process, but it's not like they matter much in the long run.

I understand they have to cram 100+ chapters in 12 episodes but they could have given us a bit of context at the very least. And with them cutting the Black Reaper parts, people have no idea how edgy Kaneki has become.

As for the Rushima raid, they already skipped tons of stuff but they better keep the key parts. Quite a lot of development in this arc.

Beautiful Dream: Dawn

At last, I'm done with the first season just in time for season two.

Got to say that for me the two most powerful scenes happening in the twelfth episode were:

Haise and Kaneki coming to terms with each other about their memories of the past regarding mother and how come salvation for them can come by being loved and dying a cool death that will be remembered for ages to come.
Haise bids farewell to Kaneki as he goes to sleep embraced by the gentle arms of Morpheus, as Kaneki Ken finally springs back into the stage.

Shirazu's last words to his Quinx mates, as he sacrificed everything to protect them. A truly tragic death that served as a catalyst call for Urie to begin to realize how others are much more important and will profoundly affect him, hopefully, to grow for good.

Now, I'm ready for the second season, though still wary of Furuta at last showing up his true colors.

Is it strange that I sorta understand the first episode? Also the females characters are beautiful.

That was the big fight of the series, and both the animation and direction were terrible. There was no sense of urgency whatsoever. I thought Natsuki Hanae may be able to sell it, but he wasn't even allowed to do his job what with them cutting Kaneki's desperate thoughts.

And what was up with the censorship? Eto is dying and she barely looks hurt.

The episode feels effin rushed, even for me who don't read the manga.
The scenes cut too quick, there was barely any impact at all.

That was a huge disappointment, but I can't say I'm really surprised. There was no real impact to anything and it all felt lifeless.

I wasn't expecting much either, but I didn't think it could be this bad.

I should have known the thread would be bumped for that scene

This season has been such a mess. They've changed so many things and removed so many important things it would take me way too long to mention them. They even removed the scene where the title gets explained.

Whatever happens in the last 5 episodes, at least we got to see Kaneki's O-face.
