It's not just Index, Oricon's charts for the entire industry are supposedly trending downward but the anime industry is making more money each year. Anime industry makes more money on merchandise, gambling like pachinko, mobages and exporting copyright/ip to other countries. Oricon doesn't track these. It's still very much the gold standard in japan for when it comes tracking sales of dvds, books, music, and stuff like those.

Also, oricon does count amazon. They do so for physical music cds and dvds for sure so physical books should be no different.

That was true a while back, but Misaka got really good in her last few arcs, so I really don't mind tbh. Ever since she became relevant again, I thought she was fine. It was just in the middle there when she was bad. Am sad to see Touma is only 3rd/4th though.

Also, WTF Aleister should have placed in top males AND females. So much sadness.

Actually, Seafoam is to some degree right and Oricon has definitely not been some gold standard especially as time goes by. This applies more to novels/manga due to various factors including the general year by year increase in digital migration, which is not counted at all. I just realized. Maybe Kamachi was told by his editors to wait for a while before publishing the next Index book because they want Index III hype to trickle in to potentially convince Fans who haven't been buying the few latest books for whatever reason to come back and start reading again because there's now hope the Franchise will go somewhere again.

I am pleased by these results. My boy Touma placing 4th doesn't bother me he is still top 5 and he is the #1 best male character from the series, again, this pleases me. As for Mikoto placing first, l don't get why some people still find this to be surprising, she tops this kind of lists all the friking time.

Wait until the next poll results, I expect Aleister, Lilith and Mina to at least make it into the list thus continuing Kamachis' plot to flood the polls with Raildex characters.
