Apparently tongue-in-cheek comedic parodies are not for you. Or you just have too high standards. Anyway I'm not surprised at all at this point.

Well the Elder Things have already been shown in the background, ditto with the shoggoths (SAAAYAAAAA). I wouldn't be surprised if we even have something on the Mi-Gou too in the future, but I'd like to see more Great Old Ones or Outer Gods added to the cast. Like Atlach-Nacha/Atko for example.

Can be taken SO out of context, given the glamour chosen for this series. Busty cleavage-showing mature meganekko? I think that hit several fetishes already.

On a more serious note, Nyar-o slaughtered a bunch of Old Gods in the Dreamlands. But if I remember right didn't Nyarlathothep have a bunch of them under his protection in the Mythos?

For as much as it warps the concepts of Lovecraft into an anime mold, it's still being respectful to them while warping. Parody, when done right, can be an excellent genre. And someone as straight-faced and hyperserious as Lovecraft was asking for someone to poke fun at him anyway.

Back to the thread itself... I'm kind of wondering how they'd tackle He Who Must Not Be Named's skillset. Obviously it's going to complement Cthuko and Nyaruko's abilities, but I don't think the King In Yellow's incarnations have any unifying theme to them (aside from causing insanity, but ALL eldritch things do that). And wasn't something else (Ithaqua?) supposed to be the wind elemental according to Derleth's elemental theory?

I don't know. I personally am not very keen on the idea, so as I said, it's just not for me. Certainly parody can be well done and such, but this isn't the sort of parody I like to see >.<.

Though really for me, when your product barely resembles anything about cthululu and it's just using its name and the mythos of it and nothing else... I just don't see where the parody is.

Eh, like I said it's just not for me. I am not as terribly hard to please as some might think. Out of the 12 shows I picked up this season and tried, I've liked about 9 or 10 of them. So that's definitely not bad right?

Found a website that's documenting most (all?) of the references that appear in the episodes~

http://nyaruref.blogspot.ca/

To think that I thought that it was heavy in parodies before...

This anime is now godlike.

Well, the Ruined King falls squarely under Wind (yeah, how did THAT come about Derleth?), as well as Nyarly, so there's kind of an overlap in that. Nyaruko doesn't show any wind traits in the anime though, so I suppose the Trap in Yellow can fill that role. Doesn't still seem right for me though...

Lovecraft, as a writter, wasn't as straight up as you said. He was documented as being very liberal with his works and allow others to copy his ideas wholesale.

Knowing the roots of his inspirations, he even acknowledge that none of the concepts were originally his and gave credits mostly to Poe and Dunsany.

If he were alive today, I'm sure he will appreciated what Nayruko is.

Damn, Shanta-kun is so cute especially the sounds that he makes.

Kuko was funny and adorable too during the episode. I was pleasantly surprised that she's not the overly jealous, violent, and obnoxious lesbian. lol.

To Reckoner's first reponse, there's actually lot of sacred things in Japan (like shintoism). Without doing something sacred, Japan is less original.

Shintoism had been used for moe girls for decades though. In fact, most religions have been used to sell moe or sexy girl merchandise in Japan by now. Judaism is spared only because the average Japanese (or the average Asian for that matter) don't know anything about it.

Sacred is sacred. But parody is parody. If you can't mock it, then your are too serious. Death and war had been parodied countless times, so what can be more taboo than them? Is Lovecraft's works more sacred than Death itself?

Spoiler for Just a bit of fun:

Hmmm, don't really know where to start on this one, as I'm not a LN reader. Would be fun to figure out though.

Oh, but there is, Islam, out of fear some chinese islamists might become members of alqaeda and bomb tokyo just because some gay vampire was reading the coran while giving evil orders to his lackeys. Maybe we catholics should reinstate the inquisition and go against a certain magical index >_< </rant off>
