That's good news, but the website doesn't appear to be working for me.

I hope that Carnelian illustrates the game. She was a founding member of Age, after all.

I have a question to ask, what does the "VF" stand for in the war dog and valkyrie team logos ?

It's a carryover from real-worl US Navy/Marine fighter squadrons. V = Fixed -Wing Aircraft, F= Fighter. That's why you'll see references to VMFA (Fixed-Wing, Marines, Fighter and Attack) squadrons.

...yes, I know they're mecha and not aircraft but hey, it's AGE.

If "V" is the prefix for fixed-wing craft, did they use a different term for swing-wing aircraft like the famous F-14 Tomcat from Top Gun again? Or is "fixed-wing" meaning anything that flies which isn't a VTOL or lighter-than-air craft?

V = Fixed-wing = Airplanes

H = Rotary Wing = Helicopters

Therefore, swing-sing fighters like the F-14 are 'fixed wing', as are VTOL aircraft like the Harrier and F-35 JSF. ALSO: All but one of the V-22 Osprey squadrons have the prefix "V". The only exception is HMX-1, which is POTUS' personal V-22 (and HMX-used to operate helicopters prior to adopting the V-22)

Also, in addition to what wavehawk said, the designation V is also supposedly derived from the French verb voler, meaning "to fly."

Note that the squadron designation will change based on the aircraft, eg:

F-14A Tomcat = VF-41. (Fighter Squadron 41).

F/A-18F Super Hornet = VFA-41. Strike Fighter Squadron 41.

A-6 Intruder = VA-75. Attack Squadron 75.

IRL, the F/A-18 was sold as a fighter/attack aircraft, a jack of all trades fighter bomber. In Muv-Luv, the Hornet fills the same tactical role as a TSF, and is not an attack aircraft, and therefore Muv-Luv Hornet squadrons in the USN and USMC are VF and VMF.

Also, by all rights the Wardogs sholdn't have any VF squadron designators, since they're IJA.

I don't know if this is against the rules, but a walkthrough was posted for Muvluv: photonflowers* game recently. People who want to learn more about the game but don't know Japanese/can't import the game can find out more about it here:

- Not sure if its' so much the aircraft as it is the role (though change of aircraft play a part in that too).

Two examples:

VMF-214 The Black Sheep Squadron of WWII fame (You guys who are at least as old as I am or older will rememebr the TV series). They were originally a fighter squadron (Fixed Wing Marine Fighter) from World War II up until 1957 when they became VMA-214 (Fixed Wing Marine Attack), . That year they still used "fighter" aircraft (The FJ-4 Fury), but In 1962 they switched to the A-4 Skyhawk and later (as of current) the AV-8B Harrier II. In other words, the Squadron turned from a light fighter squadron into a ground attack squadron.

The other example was already used:

VF-211 "Fighting Checkmates" used to be a fighter squadron (Fixed Wing Fighter), and flew primarily fighters (including the FJ-4 Fury) all the way until the F-14 Tomcat was retired. Right after switching to the F/A-18F Super Hornet, they were redesignated VFA-211 (Fixed Wing Fighter Attack). Far as I know it wasn't just a change of aircraft, but it also added ground-attack training for the pilots and their WSO/RIO.

Now the question here is: How does this all work in the Muv-Luv Universe. The A-6 and A-10 TSA mecha are distinctly different from the F-series TSFs. so it's obvious they would be dedicated attack squadrons. But the Hornet/Super Hornet and other TSF equivalents are labelled solely under the "F-" moniker.

I don't recall seeing any VFA/VMFA squadrons in Muv-Luv, but I'd guess that if they were to exist, they most likely would be a mixed-TSF/TSA squadron.

Though please understand that this is a quickly cleaned machine translation. There are mistakes and flow error abound. However once TDA 00 is released the crew will move on to fixing up TDA 01.
