From the sound of it, Sorachi basically took too much time. There are only so many slots in Jump, keeping Gintama in it past its planned ending date would have screwed up everything.

This is a relief. On one hand, it's a shame that Gintama won't be in Shonen Jump anymore, but on the other, I'm really glad Sorachi will be able to end it on his own terms without rushing.

What's the deal with Jump Giga though? It's an irregularly published book, right? I did a quick google search, and the regular translator for Gintama says that the next chapter will be out in December. That would kind of suck... Are the chapters longer at least?

This does kind of tie into chapter 697 though. I thought the beginning of the chapter was getting kind of meta, with Sorachi creating a double entendre when Shinpachi brought up "people that forgot where [they] should be," meaning the manga got too serious and forgot its roots at one point. Does this mean the "main" series will have an open end, and we'll be continuing the random comedy that will gradually cover all loose ends?

Ah, so many questions. I kind of regret finding out about this before reading the chapter.

I don't think so. When I said the series was still going to end, I meant not to expect too many chapters from Jump Giga. It's only moving there to end properly.

The final chapter in Jump doesn't have an actual ending.

I am a little sad that Kaguya and Shinpachi changed back to their old looks. I liked their new ones a lot. All in all a better "ending" than Bleach or Naruto had in my eyes. XD

I'm fine with Kagura going back to her old looks (reminds me of the Be forever Yorozuya movie, except her boobs are not as huge here ) since she's visibly older but Shinpachi looks just like he used to. At least he kept the undershirt.

I thought it was implied the series would run in Giga for some time, so I don't expect the next chapter is going to conclude the story. Not sure how much space is left in the final volume. Assuming it will end up being the final volume.

This is just a theory but the latest volume had Shinpachi in the cover. The next might have Kagura and the final, as typical, Ginsan.

The "finale" returns on December 28. Apparently this is exactly like Buso Renkin where the last chapters were divided into three issues, meaning the actual final chapter could arrive in mid 2019
