If this isn't ending in forever I would watch it ... especially because HOT GIRLS + BLEACH = total win. Bleach has its share of hot women, but it doesn't have YURI~!

Has anyone that read the manga tell us if there's REALLY yuri moments because I'm getting a pessimistic feeling that it's mostly subtext.

What?! They didn't retain the cast from the drama cd. I was looking forward to hear Nabatame Hitomi & Satou Rina voicing the main characters in the anime

Hitomi Nabatame might have been a nice voice for Lucia, but personally I didn't like the idea of her doing it. I didn't really see her fitting the character that much. ..Though maybe it was because I hear her everywhere..? Granted, now I'm left with a seiyuu I've never even heard of before. ^^; It's probably because of that that I'm looking forward to seeing how she does. ..I think?

As for Minori Chihara playing Sumire, well personally I was seeing her played by someone with a more gentle voice, but I guess she could still work (even though I still think of Erika from Lemon Angel Project when I think of her..)

I've read but the first volume, and so far there's definitely some yuri about it. ..Though I guess whether or not it will leave you disappointed all depends on your prefered "level" of yuri.

So... you like hugs? ..Maybe a long stare or two..?

Though regardless of what the manga brings to the table, I have a feeling that the anime might delve into fanservice more than what's really merited. And there are definitely scenes in the manga that can be... embellished, as it were.

Just when I was getting worried about her, I mean we have Aya Hirano being cast in lot of series, and Goto somehow get back to voice chars from game-to-anime series (I think of OtoBoku). Now I am curious to hear Minori Chihara's performance as someone who is not Yuki.

PS: Maybe she'll be more talkative? (haven't read the manga)

It will be good to see a series with yuri again. After SP! ended I was kind of left yuri-less. T_T

Anyone want to take a guess on the length of this one?

As for the Cast - Minori Chihara's voice for Yuki was very different compared to how she usually voices, IMO.

I just recently read the second volume of VVV and I'm starting to get pretty excited myself. It's hard to put it down when I start reading it. (...And I'm not much of a manga reader at all.. )
I was thinking about buying the 3rd volume as well, but decided to wait for the continuation when the anime comes out (though I'll see how long that resolution lasts when my finals are done..).

I have no idea how long this anime will be seeing as its manga is still ongoing. I think that the storyline in the anime will probably mirror the one in the manga at first, then probably head off into a different direction so the manga could keep going in peace (like FMA, maybe). ...Or I could be wrong. *shrug* Either way, I'd love to help out on that Wiki page of yours if needed (but I'm afraid of reading the Japanese Wiki, just in case there might be spoilers..)

Speaking of which, considering the yuri aspects of this show..

Sumire falls hard in the second volume for a strapping young lad by the name of Yoshiki-san. ..Who in all honesty seems to me like a stepping stone in the relationship between Sumire and Lucia, but he's such a nice guy that I don't think I'd mind Sumire going either way..

Volume 3 reveals that there's more than meets the eye to Sumire's supposed love interest.

Sumire's friend Nene insists on meeting Yoshiki and - in true manga best-friend fashion - promptly drags him away for a grilling. She reappears a few minutes later beaming happily and telling Sumire that her earlier worries were completely unfounded... but after walking out of sight, suddenly stops in confusion and wonders what she's doing there.

I don't think Yoshiki's brainwashing of Nene signals anything good for his relationship with Sumire, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if she finds herself facing off with him somewhere down the line.

In any case, the volume 4 preview looked interesting - looks like we're in for another confrontation between Lucia and Berserker Sumire. I'm also curious as to whether the gothloli antagonist girl is the same person as "Lola" in the anime - their character designs look similar, but if I'm not mistaken Lola is written up as an ally on the anime website.

Volume 4 of the shounen manga Venus Versus Virus will be out soon (27/1/2006).

Hopefully they will be able to reach volume 4 in the anime (but probably that won't happen >.< ).

I agree. Yoshiki-san is certainly becoming a little to suspicious for comfort. I for one was wondering about his behavior after Sumire saved him in the park. Was his asking her to stay with him actually a roundabout means of stalling her..? But, I think I should perhaps wait a little longer before I start making my guesses, though...

And huh. You might have a point in that Lola and Layla (was... that her name?) very well could be the same person. But then again, she could always just be an anime only character. I noticed that aside from her, it seems they also changed the original story slightly by making Venus Vangard an antique shop, instead of a clothing store.. which I guess makes more sense, considering its location, but kinda takes away from the irony of it all.
Either way, it kinda makes me wonder what else they're going to make different..

Everything took place rather quickly. Without any prior knowledge of the manga, I had difficulty in piecing the relationship between Sumire and Lucia, and of their powers, but the premise was interesting.

Although Lucia's vision eye reminded me of Black Cat and Ray the Animation, and Sumire's berserker mode was like something out of Witchblade, the overall atmosphere of the show reminded me of Yume Tsukai, albeit in a good way. I suppose loli looking characters fighting tentacled monsters is enough self-appeal for the target audience.

The voice acting was very good. In my opinion, this was Chihara Minori's (Sumire) best acting job since Tenjou Tenge, much better than her recent roles in SHnY and Lovedol.

The artwork was okay and the animation was smooth, then again, this is third title Studio Hibari is working on this season, with two more waiting in the wings, so I'm skeptical they can retain the quality until the end.

As usual, the side-cropped 4:3 TBS version doesn't do justice to this title, so I'll be using the BS-i widescreen version when I burn this on a DVD.
