Yeah, you'll just miss out on the homages (there's a lot). I've only seen Macross Plus, Zero, skimmed through DYRL on youtube and about the only thing I was confused about was what the hell deculture is. Nothing a little summary reading can't fix to fill you in. Not really the same but it helps.

This has been discussed a couple of pages back. A new Macross anime that is not a spin-off of Frontier will most probably appear by 2012.

What's with strong anti Ranka feeling in this board? Even I got negative reputation despite being neutral, I just said that Ranka slapped Sheryl and got negative reputation by I assuming a rabid Sheryl fan.

This forum is very strongly pro-Sheryl ( and hence Sheryl X Alto ). Ranka managed to be annoying and childish for a good part of the second half of the series, and a lot of people ( myself included ) really hated how she acted from episodes 19 - 22.
