To be fair this episode wasn't that bad. I was actually kinda able to understand what was happening even if I wasn't sure what the larger context of this conflict was. And the comedy was a slight improvement this time round. Touma body slamming into the river made me lol, and Itsuwa's non-magical method of breaking the gate was amusing.

Glad to hear that people found some positive things in it. Though the comedy was better because it was not the cheap fanservice/slapstick from the previous episode.

I don't think details really matter either. Usualy whole exposition is akin of Star Trek technobabble to explain what method have to be used defeat villain of arc, regardless whether it make actual sense or not.

Details matter a lot and they’re handled brilliantly in the LN and linked directly to character development. It’s just hard to put that into an anime so they don’t.
