No going to lie, for a first episode, this was way too good to be true. No rushing by taking time to properly set up the story, it's mc and the world, outstanding animation quality, very likable mc with the extra bonus of not being another highschool kid, curious and unusual slime concept, a tsundere yet badass no-CGI dragon (Madhouse, take notes) and from what i saw, there is a lot of potential for some interesting fantasy lore to develop. Btw, the way this dude got his powers was some sort of reverse Bedazzled shit . Gawd, that is a movie from the year 2000... i'm getting old
For real, almost an entire episode with a goo mini monster and a dragon yet it was so satisfying. See, fantasy can be fun without without high doses of fanservice and harem. Let's hope the future female characters are not here to just show their boobs. So far, this is very promising. I was not expecting this... please maintain this quality |

Normally you'd think the 1:1 approach is what people that want a faithful adaptation prefer despite it's drawbacks because... it's still more faithful to the source, but the result, i.e. the huge popularity this franchise produces shows that adapting to the new medium might actually be the better choice. Escpacially the fact that the manga is actually more commercially successful than the LN (and it should be said that even the LN is already top tier in sales, always being at least in top 3 when released), being able to compete with top-tier manga like Shounen Jump titles in volume sales reaching 300,000 manga volume sales within just 3 weeks PER MANGA VOLUME. It all started off with the fact that the original creator of the WN wanted to deliver a "new experience" for the LN readers and changed up quite a few things for the LN version other than the core storyline, e.g. battles scenes were added for characters who were a bit neglected in WN to have more air time, plot holes were fixed, etc. So far it was quite normal but this approach continued even with the manga, as it was even more expanded and adapted to the manga format and its chapter release schedule (released in a monthly magazine). Then on top of that, the volume release has exclusive content (which the magazine "per chapter" release doesn't have) which summarized and comments on the events of each manga volume from the perspective the dragon veldora. There is also one scene which the anime will reach at around episode 4 or 5, which has also been expanded on each medium, we'll see if the anime continues this tradition. Now the anime already had its own first anime-exclusive part in this first epside, which was the scene of the kouhai throwing the computer in to the bathtub. None of the other mediums had this scene AFAIK, so yea, I think the anime will not have everything the other media have, but it's not necessarily "skipping" it but rather the case of giving the other media their own exclusive content. I mean you wouldn't want to screw over all the manga sales just because the anime passes the manga, right? So the manga needs to have it's own exclusive stuff, and this business model seems to work, as the franchise is already successful across two media at the same time. tl;dr: This franchise proves that letting each medium be its own thing rather than just 1:1 "port" is the better approach. Yea, I am looking you console to PC game ports! ...oh, and of course I also mean the anime adaptations which are made as only LN advertisments in mind.

Just adding my voice to the choir of praise here. The first episode was a dream come true, with an original story, an interesting main character and great art. I don't know if the story will hold up well enough to deserve this kind of dedication, but it sure got off to a great start. Added to my queue.

Great start, very unique idea. Love it. Most certainly one of the shows I'm going to follow weekly.
Hope it doesn't turn into some generic harem. The opening or ending sounds a bit generic(song) but I like the animations. Will probably get used to it. |

I personally felt that this was just the same run of the mill fantasy LN anime adaptation we get every season, complete with rpg bullshit because apparently a fantasy setting can't be without some nebulous rpg mechanic, at least in japan (this is from someone that loves rpgs). About the only difference is that the mc is not a human (which is not exactly original).
I did chuckle at him asking his friend to destroy his PC, a man needs to have priorities after all. But, the rest I have already seen or read in other similar series. I'll watch two more episodes to see if it keeps my attention.
