Hmm... I read something about the Empire having Holy Roman Empire designs in the LN... but isn't that "holy roman empire" simply the army led by that "eye-patch king" that later flies around in the JSDF helicopters? Did people perhaps confuse that?

He's talking about "Holy Roman Empire" which is different than Roman Empire, Dire.
The original novel and manga has the ancient greco-roman designs for the Empire, while the LN edition looks medieval. (closer to Holy Roman Empire)

Yea I am aware of that. Immensely so, I frigging LOVE Europa Universalis IV. If you haven't played it, and like strategy games it is a must. It's all grand strategy, the battles aren't animated like total war but the game is immense.
Hence my reference to the whole medival stuff. When they are in the imperial capital it's clearly a Roman style, down to the Emperor and an ineffective Senate. That old kong dude with the one eye definitely looks like something out of Medievel Germany/ Northern Italy which would be the Holy Roman Empire. |

Because this "When they are in the imperial capital it's clearly a Roman style, down to the Emperor and an ineffective Senate" you're talking about was never (visually) portrayed in the light novel version. You're thinking of the manga. The light novel version of Gate, unlike the manga or the novel, wasn't using the old Roman designs. Case in point. This is the design of Pina and Zorzal in the LN editions. Entirely different design. As you can see, neither their clothing or the architecture behind them are greco-roman, it's medieval. Furthermore, here are designs of the armor.

Hmm... seems the anime has... a middle ground in design? Judging from the EP2 PV there is still a "senate", but their clothes got a few elements that don't seem very "ancient-mediterran-like", but the clothes still include Togas etc.
Actually my impression of the anime version is that they mixed ancient roman/greek with middle eastern designs.

No, Sherry is the loli noble girl.
The two named bunny girls are Delilah and Tyuule. Yeah, it does seem that way. At least from looking at the preview for the second episode.

Add that in previous 4chan and some other forum threads, someone who also got an account here, is swearing in a complete fuster cluck of a spoiler that Sugawara hooks up with all the girls... Sherry, Tyuule, Delilah, Bozes, etc. Confusing people where in reality most males have OTP.
