Does that word has the same meaning as "adaptation" in this context? Because we're talking in the context of adapting works from one medium to another.

Most likely. - Both being translated prety much identically is a rather strong hint in that direction
English is also not exactly a language where only one word is the right one.
There are loads of words which mean pretty much the same and can all be used.

'to rue' and 'to regret' for example. Its actually a pretty good one as I know someone whose mother language is english and they have never heard the term 'to rue sth' before.

Sidenote: I'm seemingly too dumb for my current keyboard, so if you see the same character twice in a row, when it doesn't belong there just ignore it.

But using that kind of "unheard of" English word in this context is still a stretch. Moreover, I think Alf did a simple mistype rather than using unusual English word with ambiguous meaning like that (which even you're not sure 100% about it). That's why I corrected that small mistake. And it's not just him, this kind of mistakes have been prevalent in many forums and comment sections just like how many people confuse "their" & "they're".

Another example is "temporally". I play a browser game run by a German company, and in-game there is a shop category called "Temporally available items". At first I thought it was a typo of "temporarily", but apparently "temporally" is a real English word which has the same meaning as "temporarily".

Back on topic, I haven't played the game (bought a copy, but don't have a PlayStation), but based on what people have said in the game discussion threads, I'm worried that the diversion from the game means that they are going to go with an anime-original ending, and we won't see another season despite the upcoming release of the third game.

To be honest, as much as I loved the original series and game, I'm quite disappointed with the second season :/
