Um, I would say it's beyond the level of OP/FMA/Naruto. That's not to say those series are bad, because they're all good series, but they're not in the same class as Monster, to put it bluntly.

i gave it 10
solid story (not sci-fi or martial art or fantasy, if you are looking for those then monster isn't for you)
good story telling
nice character development
heavy moral and ethical consideration

though highly entertaining shows.... I do not believe that naruto/one piece/fma are 10/10 animes....

I gave Monster a rating of 10/10 ... I have only seen frist 4 episodes by ToTan... I never read the comic... just jumped into the show after all the discussion I read here... and not only was it entertaining but the plot just sucked me in completely... the suspense and directing in episode 4 was damn awesome... Monster is nice show to watch...

Exactly. I`d rather rate it on its own merits. I would have normally given Monster a 9, One Piece a 9 and Naruto and FMA an 8. But since we`re voting by comparison, it`s like I have no choice but to vote 10. Rating it anything less would be like saying that Monster wasn`t up to the same standard.

Well the original poster mentioned the manga as well as the anime, and since the manga is complete at 18 volumes there's plenty to base a rating on. I voted for 9-10, leaning towards the 10 side of that range.

i'd have to go w/ 9.5. i'm holding judgement for a 10/10 for a later date.

in all monster has an amazing story, almost King-like in nature.
the art style lends heavily to the mood set by the story and goes along with it perfectly.

in all, it's just about perfect.

Is there any action?

How would you compare it to Grappler Baki?

err.... if OP/Naruto/FMA is 9/10-10/10, I'll have to rate Monster 9378172783461824/10...

It's currently my second most favorite modern manga series, slightly below Berserk, slightly above Revolutionary Ludwig.

(by "modern manga series" I mean to exclude things like Bird of Fire and Devilman... which is hard to judge fairly...)

10!

I just finished reading the manga. I think it is comparable to a high work of literature. Very intense.
The anime looks great as well. In fact, I was so hooked after episode 3 I had to read the manga soon after and I couldn't stop until I was done reading all 18 volumes.

I think it is far too early to rate the anime solely on its own limits.

If (and that is a very significant if) the anime production is at least 90% faithful to the manga, I would say it would definitely be one of the best anime series in Japan for a long time.

That would be until 20th Century Boys get its own anime series...
