Is it really doing too good? It seems it's not doing well as some other novels.

only the most popular pass 150k, then yes, for a light novel is going very well.

In retrospect this is funny. Acer, nice prediction

Index is part of that top 5*(2%) of novel series.

To their defense, Index didn't really get that good until around vol 12(the first god right hand arc) and only really blast off after vol 15. Also, the first few volume indeed feel like Touma is too filled with shounen protagonist plot armor(he still is even in the later volume actually, Kamachi just getting better at writing so his protagonist armor doesn't seem too glaring)

#1 Js06 solves all translator problems (The god of all gods)
#2 These people hated on Index for some really weird reasons...
#3 Index almost wasn't adapted by BT
#4 English translations of a series and a corresponding anime or two can help people's opinions as to the quality of that series
#5 Kazuma Kamachi's writing must have gotten better or something since then... oh wait: it already was great back then.
Oh, great. Here we go...talking about everything as if it were fact...way to use this place as a way to make fun of people who have varying opinions of the series compared to you. If you have no idea of how projects are even initiated on BT, or why people made the remarks they said (which I feel is valid given the huge plot armor Touma had right from the beginning, the incohesiveness of the plot because of the arc-each-volume format of the early series...and let's not talk about the math regarding Accelerator's Earth attack...but it's all opinion) or even how BT works, it really makes a worship of a series that was supposedly translated by one man himself all the more harebrained. Do remember that at the start of February 2010, the project only had 110k views. We're not even talking about popularity, we're talking about the willingness someone has to translate.

Anyway, back to the main point. If a series can break through more than 100,000 copies sold per volume, it will certainly be considered 'mainstreamed'. 150,000 copies per volume will be considered a 'cult favorite'.

@The_Ping that was a little inappropriate sorry... But to me, as an *ignorant* observer, who doesn't know anything, it was crazy to imagine that Index wouldn't get picked for an LN when it has 36(?) main series LN's now. I only mentioned it because of the irony. I don't expect you guys to be God and know it's going to be good: in hindsight it WAS funny. Many people think so. This is because a lot of people really like the series. This is a forum where people pretty much just post opinions unless they are actually posting facts. I don't think I was in the wrong for my opinion, but I will apologize for making fun of the posters. For first time LN readers, I can see how the novels don't have as much appeal. If you're re-reading them after seeing the anime, they are nice because of the world-building. But this is a place to discuss Index LN sales. Considering that they would have probably been much lower selling if BT hadn't picked them up and brought them to a lot of people, this is certainly relevant (this is especially true if they come out in English).

Anyway, because this really shouldn't be dead. I'm going to fix and not let it be stopped/ruined:

*sigh*

This conversation has been deathly silent recently. Does anyone know how the Oreimo book has been selling?

So... Now as Chaos said that the movie was popular enough to possibly get another one, I'm hoping this will increase LN sales dramatically. Anyone think this is possible? How much do people think season 3 will raise sales, I'm curious as to this?

I really wish Index sold more... I want it to be #1 in terms of sales. If I came out in English eventually in the far-future, I'm sure it would sell a lot. Though It'd probably be better for them to wait until seasons 3,4 are out and maybe some of NT and maybe even another movie (hence a long long time).

I assume the LE stands for Limited Edition, which implies a Normal Edition later?

Though it's not even a whole week, should not the movies sell like 100k+?

Yeah, but I think I heard somewhere that you need some 60-100k to be profitable with Movie due to the production costs, maybe I am wrong..

Anyway you can compare it to preious anime movies here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/anime/commen...nkings_update/
Ofc. it still need another week or two for the sales to be final
And then add cca +25% to be accurate (because Oricon data show 20-30% less sales than real numbers)

You forget that unlike TV shows, Movies have an additional revenue from the tickets sold. Otherwise what's the point of that 500 million yen?

Anyway it'll be nice if it beats the Nanoha movies but I'm not holding my breath...

^its not that good if you compare it to other figures. Its a movie.

That's why I ask if that figures are total sales in how many weeks. Its only been a week since the movie is release right?

now is hope that this money (mostly) is used in the production of Index III and not by some corrupt executive who wants do sex tourism in some poor country.

the film grossed 500 million + over 300 million on DVD / Blu-ray, and these sales are just the first five days, it can still sell far more, as may not have gone well? may not have been a phenomenon, but I think I still was a success overall.
