All the RG are reminiscent of Gotei 13 captains. The hot springs bancho is like a cross between Kenpachi Zaraki and Kenpachi Unohana, the spider chick is like Mayuri, Zanpakuto guy is like Urahara (specifically TBtP Urahara), the fat leader guy is like a cross between Yama-jii and Shunsui, and fat/hot chick is like a cross between Retsu Unohana and Rangiku. All of them also have things that make them reminiscent of other characters (Zanpakuto guy's artificial harem --> Shunsui's womanizing and Urahara's "kids", spider chick's fancy clothes --> Byakuya, etc.). Kubo is a fine artist, but he's not the most original character creator out there...

EDIT: Oh, and speaking of recycling characters... Johnny Two-Tongue? Total Wonderweiss expy. Embarassingly so.

EDIT2: Not that Mr. Imagination wasn't as well, to a certain degree...

To be fair, it's not easy to create a character type no one has seen before, especially when you're creating 20+ new characters per arc.

Sometimes it is a bit too obvious though, yeah.

That's why you just create a character that does the same thing better. Make a character that has a bankai that takes his chakra reiatsu into a swirling ball in the palm of his hand and slam it into his enemies. This strike not only defeats anyone it hits but causes a form of brain damage that reverses their way of thinking 180 degrees. hmm but what shall we call such an awesome bankai...?

Probably for the forseeable future.

Remember, we were getting the chapters on Wednesday when Japan couldn't purchase the magazine until like, the following Monday or something. They were leaks. They've been changing up distribution patterns, not sending them out to stores as early as they used to, so some guy working in a store 'getting' one isn't an option.
