If you do not use a proper japanese language for non unicode program, the install process will be VERY messed up, and it won't work, as the installed files won't have their japanese file name, hence giving toncrap of errors.

Oh Thanks very much! XD

I went to this site:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=EN

To download it but it won't work. It gives me an error message saying,

Copy Error
An error has occurred while copying file ja.inf.
Cannot copy file to destination directory

What do I do it gives me the option to retry operation...but it just shows the error message again..

EDIT:
Maybe I am going to the wrong site for a japanese language tool thingy...>-< Can someone list site(s) to go to for free???

Will that ever be back in stock do you reckon? Wanting to buy the original games and don't really want to buy the downloadable version, prefer the disks ^^

I don't know if this is the proper place to put it, but...

I've got an email from Mangagamer. Seems like they'll be selling Onikakushi on Dec 15.

be sold for 36.95 Euros.
A bit pricey (about the same as a next gen game), but its to be expected.

Me personally, I still have three other games I want more from Mangagamer (Suika, Shuffle, Soul Link, and Kira Kira) than Higurashi (which does not have an osananajimi heroine unlike the 4 games I want lol), but for those who wants to expeirence the original, this is your chance.

It's not just Onikakushi-hen, it's Watanagashi-hen, Tatarigoroshi-hen, and that fourth one who's name I can't remember.

A next gen game is more like 60€ for xbox360 and 70€ for the PS3...
To be honest, I was expecting a higher price tag.

After a lengthy and heated discussion, we have decided to release Soul Link and Higurashi uncensored with all CGs intact.

As you all may know, the issues in Japan following the outcries of Equality Now have left many companies wary and overcautious when it comes to deciding what constitutes child pornography. With the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada cracking down and restricting content even more, we were no exception. As a company who hopes to offer our products to the entire English speaking world, we originally felt it necessary to take extra precaution to ensure that neither our company nor our customers would face prosecution or other action as a result of our products. This is why we originally felt it was necessary to remove Nanami’s CGs and replace Satoko’s naked sprite with the sprite where she covers herself with a towel. We wanted to ensure the safety of our staff, our consumers, and our ability to continue producing these games.

However, as many fans have made it clear, we have to choose where we draw the line carefully. The images we have released in our games so far and the images in these games being released soon are acceptable under Freedom of Speech. Furthermore, our products are being sold to a mature audience who is capable of making responsible decisions about what material they buy. Also, as many have already said, if we wish to continue in this business, we must push for our own standards as well. Although it is impossible to say there will not come a time when we are forced to censor content in a game, we do intend to proceed selling our products uncensored.

About the release of Higurashi

I thought it was important that we should let our customers know about the upcoming release of “Higurashi When They Cry”.

Primarily due to complications in the copyright, the following modifications are being made.

- Replacement of BGM in some scenes
- Removal of the Music Room
- Removal of the Mini Game
- Removal of the Staff Room

Now I’m sure that many people would be upset for not getting the exact same experience as the Japanese version, especially in the area of music which affects gameplay.

In order to explain why, we have to look at where the original game comes from. This title was released as a doujin game, and the creator acquired BGMs from different artists. 07th Expansion nor MangaGamer.com have full rights to them, in this situation which counts as a “port”.

To have you look at it from another angle, there might be some people who realized that there are BGM differences in the demo version of Higurashi and the commercial version, even in the original doujin edition. And of course the console versions and anime all have different tracks. And as far as I know, the famous songs which makes Higurashi what it is, such as “Thanks”, “You”, and “Confession” don’t appear until the latter chapters, and they aren’t affected.

I can understand the removal of some of the BGM since the french release had to do the same, but what's up with the rest?

From what I’ve heard, the issues are as follows:

Music Room-Because a few BGMs/SEs were replaced, the original license holder requested that we remove this feature as part of our adaptation of Higurashi.

Minigame-This was removed because of technical issues as well as copyright issues with some characters from other companies who have a cameo appearance in the minigame. In the original game they were used without permission, and we have not received permission to use them either, so the minigame was removed.

Staff Room-What many of you are thinking of is what’s called the “Otsukaresama-kai” in the DS and other versions. This is the scene where the characters gather and discuss the events of the game and their own theories and hypothesis about the culprit or culprits. These will be included as far as I know, and I believe Evospace said as much earlier. The Staff Room section is similar to a diary for Ryukishi, and contains various topics relating to games, products, and other material during the time he worked on Higurashi. Since we have no permission for any of the games or products he discussed, this section was removed as well.

We sincerely apologize for these differences between our version and the original, however the actual story and elements important to the story still remain just as they were in the originals. As a doujin game, Ryukishi was able to use many songs, characters, and topics without permission for these features, but as an official release we need permission from the copyright holders to use them. Since we couldn’t obtain all the licenses for all of the characters and products featured in these sections, they were unfortunately removed. If we ever have any new updates about these features, I assure you we will make the information available as soon as possible.

Again, while these features have unfortunately been removed, aside from the few BGMs which were replaced, the original story and other elements important to the story have not been removed or altered.

I understand about the music, and I'm a little annoyed with the rest, but whatevs. However, the thing that REALLY annoys me is that mangagamer releases all this info the DAY BEFORE the release. Talk about unprofesional .

When I extracted the images from the Higurashi VN, the minigames had things like Rena holding Cardcaptor Sakura's wand thing, Black Frost from Shin Megami Tensei series in another one, and... I don't know, but this weird looking fairy, not sure if she is from another series.

Indeed. Bought-ed. 8D .

I now hope I didn't win that contest Animenewsnetwork was holding. I was so excited that I bought it first thing this morning ^^; . Heh.

(as a side note, Are Rika and Satoko really just one grade below Keiichi? I thought they were younger....)

they have to be younger Rika and Satoko is in age X while Keiichi, Rena and Mion is in age XX so Rika and Satoko can at most be nine years old.

I thought Rika and Satoko were 12-13... Because in Himatsubushi, Rika looks like Akasaka's daughter (forgot her name) 7 years later... ._."
Kei, Rena and Mion were 17...

I would agree with WarriorKK. I thought they were 12 as well.

As another topic they seem to have a whole different soundtrack for the mangagamer Higurashi game. Also think there still some translation mistakes as well in 1st Satoko scene, or that just me?
I know phrase "the other school in town" is suppose to be "the school in the other town". <TIP section>

Miyuki.
And Miyuki was 7 years old in that timeline... which was different from Rika's anyway.

Rika and Satoko have to be more than just one grade below Keiichi. Keiichi is in the same grade as Rena, and just one below Mion... that would mean that Rika and Satoko weren't too far from Mion and Shion's ages... but that can't be right (take note on how they all interact, their height and design differences, and how other people treat each of them...).
