(L) Gakkou Gurashi [Manga]

Synopsis : Three high school girls and a teacher are camping at school. (That is really it for the Synopsis)

Genres: Horror, School, Slice of Life, Seinen.

It might be a little soon to make a thread about this manga since only one chapter has been scanlated but that one chapter brings about a decent amount to discuss and probably deserves some attention.

Art is sub-par so far but most series start that way but the premise that it starts with could turn into something interesting.

Just like Soverence said, it's about 3 high school girls and a teacher are camping at school except that was half of the plot. At first it looks like a slice of life, cute girls doing cute things manga until the end of chapter 1 makes you realizes something is very wrong.

Basically, it's actually 3 high school girls and a teacher stuck in a barricaded school due to a zombies surrounding the school. As they try to survive, Yuki, the Dojiko of the group is deluding herself into thinking everything is normal and she and her friends are part of a camping club, which the other three encourage her delusions.

Extra points for the fact the manga is written by Norimitsu Kaiho of Nitro+.

yeah looks like it, so looks like the teacher was never there from the start of the story and was only a illusion to Yuki, I am surprised that I didn't catch on to that earlier than I did reading back the few chapter that we have already had. Seems the zombies are easily distracted by noise which is a good weakness to know that is for sure. After the end of this chapter though I got to wonder how long Yuki will stay in her delusion and how she will act when/if she comes out of it.

I did not expect that. I thought the teacher was gonna die in that chapter but in reality she been dead all along and is part of Yuki's delusion. That was depressing.

And looks like there's another survivor.

We meet the other survivor and what she's being doing since the zombie outbreak.

Also, she's reading "The Stand" by Stephen King.

Meanwhile, Yuki and the girls are going on a field trip aka looking for supplies.

Shovel girls gets a car and drives the gang out from the school.

Just caught up on some of this. Wow, what an interesting melding of genres. That's a compliment in this case...they play off each other very well in ways I wouldn't have thought possible. Despite the art and slice of life style, it somehow manages to be unsettling and even downright disturbing at some points.

Will definitely keep tabs on this one.

Whoa. That's gotta be painful for Kurumi aka Shovel girl, to visit her home.
At least she didn't find any bodies in her home, giving her some hope.

PS: I just realize the car the girls are driving is a Mini-Cooper.

Until they encounter the zombies.
And the other girl finally hears them.

So the girls manage to rescue the 4th survivor and we also learn what happen to her and the others at the mall during the outbreak.

Chapter 12 was a real punch in the gut. I bet the new girl will have some attachment issues because of that. Kind of odd that they returned to the school, but I guess that's technically the only safe spot for the moment.

And the worst part about that chapter? The rest of the survivors in the mall could have survive if that guy didn't hide the fact he was bitten. That's one rule about surviving the zombie outbreak you shouldn't ignored.

Ain't that the truth. Really shows the difference in character and leadership between the teacher and someone like him. I can understand why he did it though, since it would mean immediate exile or even death by his group. Fear of rejection can make people do some crazy things. Still doesn't excuse getting everyone killed.

The first chapter I was like "oh no, another school-club anime" untill the last page.

I have a strong feeling that this can really become something as I see a combination/influence of Lucky star / Highschool of the dead / boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai
So I look forward to further volumes

Miki finally wakes up and meets Yuki. Ofcourse, Miki is kinda weirded out that Yuki is "talking with" Megu-nee/Sakura-sensei.
Kurumi and Rii explains to Miki that Yuki started to deluding herself after Megu-nee's death. While Miki plays along, she thinks Yuki needs help to snap out of it but Rii is pissed over this since Yuki's cheerfulness has kept them sane.

Oh snap! Miki tells Yuki she can stop pretending everyone she knows is alive.

So Yuki's been pretending to be delusional for the sake of her friends and keep their spirits up.
Miki finally understands why she did and keeps it a secret.

Miki decides to join the club and also learns that only mammals seems to get infected into zombies which the club learn when Yuki brought a dog back who unknown to her was bitten which Megu-nee tried to get rid of it but the zombified‎ dog came back.

While reading Megu-nee's diary, Miki discovers a Government Emergency Manual for the zombie outbreak which she shows it to Rii and Kurumi, which reveals the school staff were informed about the zombies before outbreak. Kurumi is shocked that Megu-nee knew about the outbreak all along that she vents her anger on a zombie and heads to the school's supply basement which the manual reveals. Unfortunately, Kurumi gets attacked by a zombified‎ Megu-nee at the basement.

Because, Kurumi couldn't kill her former teacher, Megu-nee scratches her. Luckily, the manual reveals there's medicine for the infection at the basement. Miki decides to get the medicine herself since she doesn't know Megu-nee andwon't hesitate to kill her. Meanwhile, Rii has Yuki stay away from Kurumi while Rii handcuffs her as a precaution.

Miki lures zombie Megu-nee to the basement's shutter where she thanks her for helping her students during these hard times before killing her. Just when Rii is about is about to end Kurumi's life, Miki comes back with the medicine and injects it into Kurumi. The girls wait if the medicine works.

Damm, that was intense. I hope the medicine works on Kurumi.

We'll just have to see. That said, the 4 months in between update from the last chapter does NOT help.

Megu-nee was so close to the medicine. So, so close. The question is, does the medicine actually work? I hate these long chapter breaks.
