Holy Grail is synonymous to Cup of Wishes.

In fact, in the Japanese version of Monty Phyton they refer to the holy grail as the holy sake up, which basically what it is.

Frankly, because of the nature of the setting, theme, imagery, it can alude to both.

It's not really a big deal. I doubt it would offend anyone; religious or otherwise.

And the Holy Grail and Cup of Wishes could also be considered analogous to the Sumerian Gra-al, Celtic Cauldron of Ceridwen, Greek Cornocopia or the Indian Amrita. It isn't hard to find parallels between different myth cycles if you pay attention. The consistencies are more common than the conflicts. Pretty much every mythology has something like this, so it isn't surprising that it would exist and be fought over by heroes of all lands and eras.

Ah, so I was correct. My purpose in pointing that out though was not because it would offend anyone but was because some people were using it to influence their Servant choices, when gamers were told by Type Moon about it before the full game was even released. I don't really think it'd be fair for people just watching the anime to only get part of the picture. So it technically isn't a spoiler since it was probably only left out for time's sake (and chances of going back are small since the anime has past this part by two days).

Some general hints...

None of the servants are historical figures (actually... there are 2 exceptions to this, but they're strange cases...) They're all mythical.

Also... the most difficult to guess is Archer. I originally thought he might be Robin Hood, but... yeah, I don't think it's even logically possible to figure out who he is.

Saber Spoiler: King Arthur or Sir Galahad..it's the holy grail after all, at least one of them must be there, i thought. Rider Spoiler: Medusa...simply guessed that her eyes have some great powers which shouldn't be used all the time since she was covering it. Caster Spoiler: Medea..not much of a reason for this one. I had the impression she was a witch. Berserker Spoiler: Don't laugh...i thought he was some monster/troll/giant in the myths. As for the rest, I can't guess anything...so much for my limited knowledge on myths and legends.

Also, regarding the Holy Grail... Spoiler for For what Rin said on Day 1 of the prologue in game, not mentioned in anime, so spoiler warning: The Holy Grail isn't the cup of Christ, it's a completely different relic that's more akin to what I believe is the Japanese "Cup of Wishes". I have no idea why the anime hasn't said that yet though as it's bound to confuse some people. Maybe in episode 3?

First Saber Spoiler: My guese is that its Joan d'Arc, since its most likley a female, and she is the only one I could come up with after thinking abit about it. Second Archer Spoiler: I just keep thinking if I knew if there was any famous Archer thru Asian legendes. Doe I didnt come up with anyone. And since it has to be one wich uses a duel blade in combat, my first guese from greek mythology wich was Odysseus, that one went away. And the only one I could think of was William Tell. But I dont think thats him. My guese would be some asian archer. And that aint my area of expertise Third Berserker Spoiler: Im actually looking thru my memori to remember some viking. Since if I aint misstaken, vikings were known as Berserkers. So I thought that would make sense. But I couldnt really come up with any names. We got a few known once and one of them has been mentioned befor "Erik the red" (In swedish its "Erik den röde"). But he aint really one of thos known for fighting. I think Berserker would be a viking that either terrorised down in France or in England (Brittain). Forth Lancer Spoiler: Most likely be somone from asia. Since spear combat was different there from the rest of the world. I'd guese Lu Bu like alott of you others have. These are my thoughts and gueses Im probobly way of

As soon as I heard "War of the Holy Grail" and saw Saber, I knew she had to be Arthur. A female version of Arthur, but Arthur nevertheless. Rider Spoiler: Only one person in the world fits someone being blindfolded, but would you really consider Medusa a hero? I guess depending on how things are put, one would be a hero, the other a villian. Unsure, but I think I got them: Archer Spoiler: I think I know who Archer is. Hm... Ok, if it is who I think it is, I can't say it for everyone else right? Cause it'll wreck the show if I do. So did I guess right? I really wanna know if I got Archer right though. It hit me when I was watching Episode 1 and 2 for the 15th time as to who he is. ^_^;; I like the show, what else can I say? Not easy though, but the clues are there if you look hard enough and it just specifies the qualifications are heroes/villians (depending on the way you look at it) to be a Servent. Beserker Spoiler: I think it could be Samson. I mean, he was pretty powerful for a hero, and if I remember correctly, Zerker's hair was pretty long. I need a better still, but Samson could be just as good as Hercules. Caster Spoiler: Morganna D'Lefay or however its spelt. Only female mage I can think of, but then again, could be Merlin, since they've already switched Arthur's gender on us. That's all for now. I've got no idea on Lancer or Assassin and I want a better guess on Caster, since having two people from the same area and timeline at the same time wouldn't work I think. But who knows?
