They probably want people who get the free trip to spend that saved airfare in Japan. Although, this way they can also keep the airfare they are sponsoring from going to foreign airlines if they work with Japanese airline companies.

Choo's little survey wasn't very well constructed.... I'd be interested in classical and pop culture, as well as landmarks, shrines, castles, how people live, eating what the locals eat, attending the festivals, etc.
And yeah,,, that'd give me an extra couple of thousand bucks to spend on Japanese food, drink, collectibles, ryoku, onsen.
