First of all, there never was that hype that some people seem to make out. Second, SAO got a fair share of critics who decried it as some crappy wish-fulfillment (whatever that may be) anime. Third, comparing it to Shingeki no Kyojin is a dumb comparison by whoever makes it. Like apples and oranges.

To be the nickpicky one on semantics, while I agree that way the system's set up is reasonable and the authority had been trying their best, in general, that does NOT mean it's already reached THE optimal state, especially since the system is still relatively new. Therefore, technically speaking, there could be some "small" change....

When's the last time you see the system never change a single bit in the course of human history over the long term ?

(again, just being nickpicky on semantics)

Technically speaking, it could be called unfair, though it's subjective. But at the same time, it's reasonable and sort of optimal.

The system can give half of the teachers away to WEED, but then they would also have to slow down the entire curriculum. So in this case, it's fairer, but less optimal.

Most of the critics here are westerners, I assume ???? (while the buyers are mostly Japanese)

Over 10k in blu-ray sales for the first two volumes of this anime. I think that it will be like SAO. Probably wait a year to see the story develop and then resume animating the rest. Also, they might release OVAs or specials that cover non-adapted parts.

A second season will likely only animate the rest of their first years. I don't see them going into the second year until at least a season 3 if there is one.

I can see them doing ova's for the SC election and for the beach chapters until then.

Oh I didn't mean wait a year in the story. I meant wait a year after the anime is done airing on TV.

Depending on how they adopt reminiscence and if season 2 is two cours, I can see them getting to second year actually. Though I have no ideas on how the pacing will go.

I just re-checked the opening scene in Mahouka episode 1, and when Tatsuya was younger, the person next to him on the battlefield creating the force-field was a female with purple eyes and brown hair. So far in the series, there are only 2 female characters with those traits. One is his aunt. The other is Honoka. I doubt it is either one of them, though. My best guess for who it is is probably his cousin (if he has one) that is a daughter of his aunt.

Something different I noticed as well with how the current officers are set up. Chiyoda Kanon is currently the Disciplinary President. Watanabe Mari was the previous Disciplinary President. It seems like only the females are head of the Disciplinary Committee, and the rest of the group are males. Furthermore, Kanon did not appear to previously be a part of the Disciplinary Committee, yet she was voted into the President position. Something seems really off about the whole thing, but unless we get to see the election process, things might not get explained.

I'm guessing if they ever decide to make OVA's for the series, they might cover the elections and summer events.

Kanon was indeed no part of PMC before Mari resigned.
Mari forced- FORCED!!! - Tatsuya to do her paper work to get Kanon into the PMC and get to be the chief right afterward.
What did Tatsuya get for this commission?? Nothing!!! Talking about extortion and over independence.

Kanon is Mari's yuri friend, according to rumors.

Considering Mari has a boyfriend, and Kanon is extremely affectionate with her boyfriend/fiancee, I'm not sure how they can be Yuri friends unless people look at their interactions together with big Yuri goggles .

But putting Kanon in as the new head of the Disciplinary Committee, whether she actually wanted the job or not, seems to have done her some good. She seems a lot more mellow and restrained than she was before she got the job, at least from what I've seen. Anything related to Kei still seems to be able to stir her up, but not as much. So I'd say a good call on Mari's part .

Well, Kanon doesn't object in anyway and accept her role willlingly.
And she is better because of Mari? More like because of Tatsuya's whips of love.
He had to discipline her right on their 1st patrol together.
What have Mari done after throw her under Tatsuya's care? Nothing!! Again!!!

If Tatsuya leaves her alone, PMC would be disbaned.

Regarding to Mari x Kanon, as i said before: "according to rumors". With this waayyy-too-shady power transfer, doubts are understandable.

How popular, or otherwise, is Ichijou Masaki over in Japan?

I've wondered about the kind of side stories that might be told one day in this setting. (I believe that Miyuki has a manga told from her own perspective, but I was thinking of something more at a remove from the Shiba siblings.)

On that front, I was wondering if Masaki might make for a half-decent option, at least from what has been shown for him in the anime so far. He is a powerful character in his own right, has a distinct "home" setting at Third High which could help distinguish it from the First High setup, and could potentially open the door to a different set of prioties, politics, and personal relationships that are only hinted at in the "main" story.

(I'm hoping that there will be something interesting for him to do in the Out of Order Vita game, at least.)

Would there be enough of an interest in the Crimson Prince to make a side story featuring him viable?

On a side note, I only recently registered that Masaki's VA also voices Kirito from Sword Art Online. Yet in the recent Mahouka/SAO cross-promotion, Kirito is often shown alongside Tatsuya instead. Which I suppose is fair enough, if a tad ironic.

The only certainty is that the most popular in Japan are 1-Tatsuya, 2-Miyuki, 3-Mayumi.

On the Japanese wiki, his character page is 4th behind these three I guess he is popular. There is a SS about him and George in Volume 5, a spin off about them would be interesting considering the setting, more than Yuutousei even though I like it.
