The original 1973 live-action adaptation is considered something of a disaster in the unintended sense, so hopefully Yuasa has better luck.

Had to do a double take there: I read that as "Japan Stinks".

I’m just noticing that it’s a quake-related disaster story with a pubescent girl and a pre-teen brother. Did Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 borrow heavily from the original book?

Didn't the book and both movies were intended to be satire? ie how japan could easily dissapared into irrelevance?

I don't think this is a timely anime to watch considering the ongoing "period of uncertainty" around the world. Watching the trailer for this and that other upcoming disaster flick starring Gerard Butler. It was enough to gloom me out for the rest of the day.

All 10 episodes dropped on Netflix Japan. I've only watched the first but it was easily the best premiere of the season - thoroughly riveting. But this looks like a really dark ride.

Out in the UK today, and I've only watched the first episode so far, but wow!

Remember that old "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0" anime from 2009? Well that looks like a picnic compared to the scenes in the first episode of this.

Suspect Enzo's right about it being a dark ride, so I think I'm going to ration myself to one episode a day rather than blaze through it.

Between this and Great Pretender (when's that getting out over here?), Netflix have upped their anime game.

First 4 episodes were interesting, goes downhill from the 5th episode and just plain bad. 6/10 at best.
